Last night I was remembering Tim McCarver.  Maybe the worst color commentator in the history of the job.  Well at least worst relative to how long he held the job and his assignments compared to his actual competence in the job.  Kind of like there are worse movies than Titanic and Frozen, but those two compared to their achievements are clearly the worst movies ever.

The only joy of listening to McCarver was his absolute infallible ability to always be wrong.  I laughed every time.

McCarver: "They have to bunt here, and get that runner over.  They need to get runners in scoring position.  In a tie game you need to get that next ru........."

Buck " It's a deep drive to centerfield, and it's out of here, the Braves take a two run lead."

then.......

McCarver: " You have an open base here, no sense pitching to the Braves best hitter, you have to walk him in this situation and bring in a lefty to match up against Justi........

Buck: "Swing and a miss that's strike three and Rivera ends the inning".

Then there's my man Louis Reddick.  He's clearly gunning for McCarver's title.  Last Night :

Reddick: "Washington needs to take a shot in the end zone here and throw that ball up to Seals-Jones and let him use that height and go up there and get it".

Levy: "It's a screen behind the line to McKissic (the shortest guy on the field) and he's in 10 yards for the touchdown.  Washington takes the lead."

I'm not making this up, you all can check it with Stefania next time we get the chance to be live.  22 seconds left in the game, Seahawks have the ball.

Reddick: "They need to clock it here and stop the clock, they have the first down, and there's no need to rush, get organized and take a shot."

Paul (that's me): "TOUCHDOWN SEATTLE!"

Play starts, with no clocking of the football...

Levy: "Wilson throwing, he's got a man open, TOUCHDOWN".

We love you Louis, you make us laugh.

The Ravens host Green Bay today.  All of the Ravens' backfield starters are on injured reserve.  All of the Ravens defensive secondary are out for the game (one with +Covid, the others with injuries). They have been decimated on the offensive line.  It looks like Lamar Jackson, who left last week's game with an ankle injury and hasn't practiced all week, will be unable to play.  While Aaron Rogers has some sort of toe injury, he'll probably start.  I would be shocked if the Ravens can hold Green Bay to under 35 points, and equally shocked if the Ravens score more than 20 points.

Prevent defense prevents another win.  Lining up 25 yards off the line of scrimmage was so stupid.  Almost as bad as not covering Hill or Kelce.  Horrible defense.  Just horrible.  Gave the Packers' special teams a run for the worst performance of the weekend.  Their ST coordinator should have been shit-canned on the field.

What a weekend!!!!

Made up for the shit show the weekend before.  No real competitive games.  In the only two that finished close the losing teams (Raiders and Cowboys) never had a lead.

I love the idea of the two extra games, especially the Monday game but having the crappy Steelers and the completely crappy Eagles in the playoffs, brought nothing interesting.  Steelers were 2-6 against teams with winning records and the Eagles were 1-7, with that win coming against a Saints team with 20+ players and coaches out on the Covid list.  Neither team looked like they belonged.

I think I mentioned it last year that that gap between the top 4-6 teams and the rest of the league seemed very early 90's.

For 3 of the 4 teams left it's all about getting the most out of their star quarterback .

For the 49ers and Jimmy G, well:

From the LA Times, "Police are investigating the apparent beating of a San Francisco 49ers fan found severely injured in the parking lot of SoFi Stadium during Sunday’s NFC championship game against the Rams."

He is currently in a coma. For some reason I was expecting something like this and then nothing happened. And now I read that it did.. Reference the LA dodger "fans" who beat the crap out some guy I think from San Francisco. And they say Raider fans are trouble.
