I had the pleasure today to go to lunch for a "soft opening" of a new restaurant here.  The Alexander Brown restaurant is located in an historic downtown building that was built in 1901. The building is beautiful, with marble walls and a Tiffany glass ceiling. Somehow the building was spared from the Great Baltimore Fire of 1905.  In any event, it is a gorgeous building.

I had a delicious salad of root vegetables and goat cheese, followed by a hanger steak, cooked perfectly, served with creamed spinach. Typically it comes with potatoes, but I chose instead some scarlet runner beans which were terrific.  Met the staff. Got a tour of the various other rooms, each more beautiful than the next.  My friend's lemon tart looked fantastic.  I got some fresh fruit of pineapple, dates, and blueberries.

When it opens, they intend to have 100 whites and 100 reds, plus some sparklers, and a full panoply of bar drinks. The wine manager said they did not intend to concentrate the wine list on anything in particular.  Corkage will be $30.  They have a few private rooms as well.
