Union Trust, a prime steak house featuring Allen Brother's steaks, seafood by Samuel's and Hawaiian Seafood Company and Montague broilers opens tomorrow in Philadelphia on the same block as Jones (Stephen Starr's comfort food), Morimoto's and Jose Garces new place. The block between 8th and 7th on Chestnut is a food Mecca.
I had the pleasure of attending the Gala for Union Trust last night (2/7/09). It was a mad-house like Studio 54 for all those who remember that place. After a 30+ minute wait outside on the red carpet in a tent, I made my way to the bubbles. From there it was the wet bar with great oysters and shrimp and stone crabs. Butlered beef and lobster crab was everywhere. The place was mobbed, so it would be tough to give a positive or negative note about ambiance. However, the building is historic and immense. I think I'll take in a more relaxed dinner soon beforew I can say si or no. The food I tasted was excellent. Terry White has excellent command of a talented staff. This could be Philly's best restaurant. It will be the best steak house in Phila, I believe. Ed Doherty spared no expense recruiting great servers/bartenders/soms and hospality staff, and he put them all in great 1st class uniforms (i.e Boyd's suits etc.). I believe you will be treated as a guest moreso than just a customer.

PS: I have not seen the wine list or the prices, but the Sommiliers are excellent and knowledgable.
