Many times I have gone to Harris Steak House in the city with the Grape Ape. Always the food has been good. Once, recently, the service was not so good. Prices, for a top notch S.F. steak house are very good. $25-35 for most, $35-45 for your top shelf, more than you'll ever eat stuff. Corkage isn't great at $25, but it's the city. You're going to be hard pressed to match all of the criteria of good steak, cheap price, and little or no corkage. Just my $.02....

Good luck, and have fun!

Unfortunately the price and corkage are more important than the quality of the steaks. Frown
I have a feeling we'll end up in Chevy's Smile

Yeah, I've been to ACME. It was a birthday dinner and we went to Cirque Du Soleil afterwards.
Pretty good.
I was at Harris last week and it was excellent. But the $25 corkage did bug me.

I've also had a good meal at Acme and would recommend it. When baseball is not in season it is VERY quiet and relaxed.

I've had mixed experiences at Morton's and I haven't been to Alfred's in about 20 years, but it's still open so someone must be going there.

You may want to try Izzy's Steak and Chop House. It feels kind of like a chain, but as far as I know they only have two locations. It's definitely casual and not pretentious. I don't remember what the corkage is and it's not listed on the wine menu. If you give it a try, let me know your experience.

Izzy's has a few good write-ups. Corkage was $10 two years ago. If it's still $10 then we'll probably try it.

Houston's on Montgomery apparently has no corkage, which makes it the other main contender. Anyone been there?
Caveat: At Izzy's a number of years ago, I bit down on some of the wonderful bread they get from S.F. Sourdough company. The hard crust took the vanier right off a cap. SF Soudough came through and paid for a replacement. (The fact that it took two dentists and five tries not withstanding. Four by one dentist, and the fifth by my current dentist to get it right.)
