The Godfather Part II
Key Largo
Hit & Run -- pretty poor

Late night travel last night made easier with some old John Cusack classics:
Better off Dead
Grosse Pointe Blank
I think the only "classics" that he was in are The Grifters and Being John Malcavitch. I'd throw The Sure Thing in there for fun.
I won't argue about Better off Dead, but Grosse Pointe Blank was an excellent movie and had one of my favorite soundtracks.
For shame, Better of Dead is remarkable and fantastic. I want my two dollars. Two dollars. As an aside, the actor who played the villain from Better Off Dead was an excellent waiter in Key West for a number of years.
Oh and Grosse Point Blank is awesome
all mentioned are great John Cusack flicks. Totally forgot about the Sure Thing though . . . that is definitely up there.

Interesting, I'm just the opposite, cannot watch anything she is in.
I just don't know what the heck happens with her accent from film to film. I think she's a decent actress, thought she was really attractive in her earlier movies, and now think she's an ok actress with really poor speech coaches! Favorite flick with her though in my mind is "Good Will Hunting" but see note above about wacky accent
Wolverine.
Red obsession
While not a movie, I've been watching The Story of Film: An Odyssey on TCM. Beautifully done. Wonderfully different perspective on film. Up to the 1950s now.

RUSH
This the story of Nikki Lauda and James Hunt, it is a fantastic movie. The character development by Ron Howard is riveting, the perfectionist v playboy.
Watch this movie at cinema, guarantee you will enjoy it

Purge . . .
disturbing premise, fairly predictable, but not bad for a quick flight. Haven't seen Ethan Hawke in a flick for a while and his performance was a tad stiff but again passable for an in-flight movie to pass the time

Rounders, classic

Think I've seen this before. Isn't everything run by a giant computer named, "Landru"?
Match Point
The Fairy - in FR with subtitles. Enjoyable comedy with lots of sight gags and physical humor with a nod to silent films. There were no "Hollywood" style lookers so everyone was "normal" looking which was refreshing.
We watched about 20 minutes of Downloading Nancy, which became too depressing to watch.

She's quite a good singer and songwriter, too. Her album from about 5 years ago, Seastories, was on regular rotation in our house when it was first released.

I read a pretty funny quote by her. When she was 18 or so, she moved to Rio de Janeiro. She said (to paraphrase) "it amazing how long you can go with no money on just a bikini." She lived there for something like 2 years

Oldie but goodie episode with Landru!
I see where Woody has pulled his Blue Jasmine out of India. Apparently every time someone smokes in the movie, a warning against smoking appears on the screen.

Stuck in Love - not bad for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Oblivion --better than I expected, but still had the story figured out in the first 10 minutes.
World War Z --odd mishmash. Was never sure why, with the whole world going to hell, everyone would put their lives on the line for some dude who used to work for the UN.
Pitt needs to find a decent barber.

Agreed. Been looking forward to it making it up my queue, and it didn't disappoint.
Every Day -- ehhhhh
A Beautiful Mind. Loved it.
Somm - on the recommendation of vinojoe. The second of 3 wine docs I would like to see this fall. Red Obsession was the first. Both were about obsession, but I could relate to the motivations in Somm more so than in RH.
The third film I'd like to see is A Year in Burgundy. Anyone seen it yet?

old sci-Fi night . . .
Robocop (the original with Peter Weller)
Flash Gordon (from way back when)
Love Robocop . . . given the relative lack of cgi back then, they did a great job
Flash Gordon -- it's so incredibly bad, it's good. Some of the best worst acting in Hollywood!

Flash Gordon so incredibly bad it's incredibly bad. I hope this wasn't a second viewing, too much film greatness exists to waste moments of your life.

I am sad to say that Flash Gordon was a second viewing. First was way way back when but I still have the emotional scar from it
Friend convinced me that it needed to be in the double feature.
While I agree that life is too short to watch this flick a second time, it still was so incredibly awful that it was almost entertaining. I thought I remembered how terrible it was, but I was sorely mistaken!
I always think of Ted when I hear Flash Gordon now...
Just 2 viewings? I would expect that most males aged 40-45 have seen it multiple times. I have seen it many many times. You've got Timothy Dalton and Topol (more famous as Tevya in Fiddler on the Roof, I give you).
For sure terrible, but I still liked it when I was a kid

I wonder if Flash Gordon ever got the MST3K treatment? If not, that is a huge oversight.

Topol was in that? Just IMDBd this . . . good old Dr. Hans Zarkov. During this search I also discovered that Melody Anderson (Flash's love interest) was one of the first Victoria Secret's models. So, in all its terribleness, there's something redeeming afterall

And I was just reminded of that awful Queen soundtrack and (shudder)title song.
Wag the Dog
I'd forgotten what a good movie this is. A decent performance by DeNiro at a time in his career when even "decent" was not assured. A very good performance by Dustin Hoffman.
Barry Levinson will never be considered one of the 'great' directors. But he sure is good.
