Watched 50/50 this past weekend. Really enjoyed it as it had just the right amount of comedy mixed in with serious stuff.
Lust in the Dust.
Finally saw Midnight in Paris. An utterly charming film. The main characters I found only mildly interesting, but the city of Paris and the cameos really got me hooked.
Kudos to Woody Allen for excellent directing and a superb screenplay. I mean you gota love this dialogue:
Man Ray: A man in love with a woman from a different era. I see a photograph!
Luis Buñuel: I see a film!
Gil: I see insurmountable problem!
Salvador Dalí: I see rhinoceros!

Sounds like a movie I would enjoy.
Knowing you quite well, w+a, I would insert a shaking-head emoticon here.
Note: That's shanking, not nodding.
I liked Hanna. It was different for sure.
I can think of highly acclaimed movies I didn't like at all. The one that instantly comes to mind is a movie that won the Academy Award for the best picture of the year about 25 years ago, Kramer Versus Kramer.
Bobby Fischer Against the World. I give it 4 stars.

The Descendents
I just finished watching the entire "West Wing" series.
Now, it is onto "Game of Thrones"

I'm flying to Europe soon and starting to think about what I may select to watch. Did you enjoy the series?
Man with a Movie Camera. (1929)
The Iron Lady. Enjoyed it very much.

We LOVED West Wing and were very sorry when the series came to an end.
One of my all-time favorite TV lines was at the beginning of an episode when the President (Martin Sheen) was reacting to the capture of a shot-down American pilot by either Iran or Iraq, and he told the British ambassador who acted as a go-between to inform the captors that "if one hair on the pilot's head is harmed, I shall smite them with fury of rolling thunder." It made me laugh at first, it sounding so very biblical, until I realized that there are only a couple of people on our planet who can actually say something like that without it being hyperbole at all. Anyway, I always loved the dialogue on that show; very smart as well as entertaining writers.

God Bless America
Man, talk about over the top.
Man, talk about over the top.

Water for Elephants My wife wanted to see it since she enjoyed the book. Pretty enjoyable though I missed the first 15 minutes and last 5 minutes.
Margin Call....
A bit contrived and over the top in beginning but tightens the tension soon and keeps it tight most of the movie.
Good, not great.

Young Adult - although Charlize is easy on the eyes I did not enjoy this movie at all.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. (American)
The original Swedish movie was far better.

Better than the last one.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
"Jiro Dreams of Sushi" Interesting documentary, but over-rated. Some touching and funny moments, but not sure that this "sushi nazi" deserves this much attention. Ehh...
"Le Havre" Liked it a lot. But, some might wonder why a Finnish director is doing a movie in France about race relations. Nonetheless, I found it well done, moving, and humorous. Recommended.
"Footnote" A LOT better than I thought it would be. Given its treatment, in part, of Talmudic scholarship I thought it might be something of an updated "The Chosen." Not so. Great treatment of generational differences, jealousy, ego, etc. Highly recommended.

I think the "West Wing" was some of the finest television done. The first couple seasons are fantastic. It slowed a little bit in the end, but then it picked up again with the Presidential elections (which is why I decided to watch it again).
Even watching an episode or two a night, it is going to take a while to go thru seven seasons. But it is worth it.
Almost fell alseep watching The Grey

Love that movie!
Looking good Billy Ray.....Feeling good Louis..
The Illusionist
Drive - heard great things about it, but was underwhelmed.
Really seemed like a flick that was gonna be right up my alley, but it far from delivered.
It had its moments, but Ryan Gosling was far too boring, monotone and unconversant.
That combined with the weird hybrid, modern 80's type music just didn't do it for me.
