The bad: Script needed word... it was written by one person "and" another "and" another in the credits: that means it was not written together but rather two different script doctors are being credited. It needed yet another revision.

The good: virtuoso acting and directing. I mean, holy crap work. That the male lead did not receive a Golden Globe nomination is a joke. This movie could legitimately provide 3 'Supporting Actress' nominations, 1 'Supporting Actor' nomination, and Natalie Portman will win the Oscar in a walk for 'Leading Actress'. Direction was daring and to get those performances, nearly breathtaking.

This is a good, but not a brilliant movie. But for the pure joy of watching these amazing people work, this is an absolute must see. And despite no CGI, I do think this will be better on the (really) big screen, as opposed to even the 50" plasma at home.

I have heard very mixed comments about this film. Based on the previews and my general reaction to this director's movies, it is an easy pass for me. Oh and FKG would never go see it as she has pronounced PI the worst movie of all time and is still scarred from when we saw it at the Angelica Theatre in th Village many many years ago

Interesting...I have heard it is a must see.

Now this said, I rarely see anything at the Angelica that disappoints.

Agree on Angelica - although The Tropic here in Key West has become my all time favorite theatre.

Much of what I heard echoes Winetarelli's post - good to great performances, but story and direction hit you over the head and was overdone.

Good info, thanks.

Based on this, I have changed my order of viewing. Now up...

The King's Speech
The Fighter

Good movie indeed, and an absolutely charming city. If you can catch a sunny day in Bruges, it is even more special.

I just wish Conde Nast readers would stop listing this town as one of their Top 10 cities of Europe. Let's keep Bruges, charming. Cool

This movie wasn't even on my list.
Sounds like a good New Year's Day flick. I must step out for minute.

It's been a long time for you now, bman. I understand. Razz

Just happy you didn't ask if I'd seen those flicks with the grandchildren..... Razz
