I hear you TBird, and while I believe you're talking about this particular movie (not movies in general), I'll walk out on maybe 5 or 10 percent of the performances I see (walked out at a local opera last week at intermission). Whether the ticket was 5 or 50+ bucks, I always ask myself if I'd be happier watching something I don't like, or out doing something I do, if even for an hour.
That reminds me of a 'Wagner Series' of tickets (at the National Opera House in Munich) that my g'friend at the time purchased (we lived close by at the time and loved attending the operas). The first one we went to was 4 hours in length with a 15 minute intermission (one of the upcoming operas in the series was 6 hours in length with one 30 minute intermission). I realized that evening that I can't stand Wagner, or his pretentious operas. Roll Eyes

I promptly sold the rest of the series, which was very easy in Munich.

Which opera?

Good call KSC02. It was a local production of Wagner's Das Rheingold. Very good orchestra, some good singing, terrible production values (one of the principals was wearing what appeared to be Nike Shox, presumably because of bad knees?) There was some sort of power point presentation on a giant screen above the orchestra that would lock up intermittently. Probably needed a faster graphics card on the lapper running it.

Well, looks like I must take KSC02's birthday gift back now!

Thanks for the heads-up!

A completely unique movie. Enjoy Wink

I was thinking more about Scarlett, but will give it a shot nevertheless. Wink

Agreed. I only watched it for Anne Hathaway but found myself enjoying it quite a bit. Not a 'good' movie, but I was entertained.
Watched most of The Da Vinci Code on TV last night for the first time. I had such low expectations after everything I have heard that I wasn’t disappointed, but wasn’t really impressed either. I like Tom Hanks, but I just cannot see him as Langdon. You need someone more professor like. Everyone says Harrison Ford but he is one of my least favorite actors and he is too old at this point. How about someone like Greg Kinnear???

How about Kirk Cameron?
Watched Star Trek today. I never got into Star Trek when I was younger; in fact I have never seen one Star Trek movie or TV show. Growing up, the only thing I really knew about Star Trek was that the more knowledge you had of the subject, the less likely you were to have sex with a women. Wink

With all that said, it was awesome! My wife and I agreed that the movie stood on its own, we liked the cast, liked the story, action etc. Looking forward to the next one.

PS – The actress playing Uhura is smoking! Have not seen or heard of her before this…

Why did you decide to give up sex after all these years?

Perhaps it is just me, but no movie is worth that! Razz

So what is next, a pocket protector?
Angels & Demons

I found it entertaining. A nice little diversion.

Much better than D-C. Starts out a bit different than the book (not bad) and then falls in line pretty closely. If you enjoyed the book, you should appreciate this as well.

Worth seeing, IMO. D & I both enjoyed it.

Tonight: Star Trek on IMAX

Don't know about that one K-. I went out and finally bought the book when I decided to go ahead and see the movie. Read about a 1/3 of it before going to see the movie today. It seemed to me that is was more of a loose adapation of the first 1/3 of the book. Lots of changed scenes, some people having conversations that different people had during the book, etc... fwiw.

Someone else recently mentioned that there were more differeces as well.

If you'd have read the book a few years ago, with the rest of world and gone by memory now, you might not be so d*mn picky. Smile

That said, even with the differences, the movie storyline works....IMHO of course...

Did you like the movie, Joe?

Yeah, I basically liked the movie. I thought the ending was a little bit of a stretch but other than that it seemed to roll along fairly well. Wish it was about 20 minutes shorter.

There have been reports in the papers that some of the child actors have had their slum housing bulldozed in the last few weeks by the Indian gov't. Apparently the money they earned was put in trust accounts until after they turn 18, to keep greedy relatives from it. But until then, I guess they're as poor as ever. So sad. Frown

I read the Davinci Code long before I saw the movie. Each had pros and cons. At the time I remember thinking the author had a great idea, but he really isn't a very good writer, technically. He needed a better editor.

Yes, my first time. K has seen it before, and recommended it to me. I wavered on giving it an extra 1/2 star. Very good film. Have seen about a half dozen of his others. Intelligent, thoughtful director.
MLV and I saw Angels & Demons - a very rare trip to the theatre for us as we usually watch movies at home now but we had free passes. Much much better than Da Vinci Code - good but not great movie - good summer flick though. As we leave for Italy next week, that did not hurt.

Loved seeing the Chef guy from Father of the Bride as the Vatican Security guy who fetched Tom Hanks.
Could not sleep the other night so I started watching Edison on TV. Easily the worst movie I have seen in a long time. Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey must have been paid serious bank to make this turd. Why would you have a hottie like Roselyn Sanchez in a movie and only show her for 30 sec’s? Justin Timberlake was not good and should leave the bad acting to his better half. You know the movie is bad when LL Cool J gives the best performance. I would almost rather watch the Rachel Ray show (almost Wink).

I thought so as well. However, as a father of a 19 year old girl, who is getting more independant all the time, it still disturbs me.

I hear ya.

This movie seemed like a blend between Hostel and a Bourne movie...not very original IMO. Just rather unlikely one guy is going to do that much damage.

Agree on Vertical Limit, a sappy movie indeed. Try K2, for a significantly better mountaineering movie.

I did, but was ashamed to admit it until now Big Grin

And as lame as that movie was I still think Vertical Limit is even more lame. At least Cliffhanger had a halfway decent lead actress (Janine Turner... not great but a better actor and better looking than Robin Tunney) and a good villain character (John Lithgow) in it.

I thought Javier Bardem was perfect as the quiet yet viciously evil bad killer. I've seen him in several other movies and he plays a wide variety of characters equally well. He's a very talented actor.

I thought it was a very good, but not a great film.

Once I got past the anti-capitalist sub text and the slow pacing, I recognized a brilliant performance by Daniel Day-Lewis, and the extraordinary cinematography.

Yeah it was pretty crappy, and that's coming from someone who doesn't mind him in King of Queens.

And don't worry. While I think he's been horrible since moving to 11:30 (and Letterman has been borderline brilliant the past two weeks) I used to think Conan had some talent. So there is that. Wink
Saw both Pelham 123 and Hangover last weekend.

I thought that Pelham 123 was a good movie. Denzell Washington is always solid and Travolta plays a good psycho.

The Hangover is one of the funniest movies that I have ever seen. To me, it rivals American Pie 1 and Borat as the best I have seen in the last ten years. The writing is brilliant and the comedy is non-stop. Warning, it is definitely juvenile, male bonding humor.

I need to see The Hangover. There are so many movies out this summer I want to see on the big screen that I might have to wait for the DVD. But, I may succumb and just see it now, anyway.
Taken - Agree with others' opinions about this movie. Somewhat entertaining but nowhere in the league of a "Bourne" movie.

State of Play - Entertaining movie, with some very good performances. However, I think the dialogue was recorded too low compared to the music and sound effects. That made it difficult to fully hear and understand the dialogue, especially that of Russell Crowe, who has a low, "mumbling" voice to begin with. Still, a movie worth seeing.

While he has had some other successes -- he wrote Point of no Return as well as La Femme Nikita -- Luc Besson really is a one hit wonder, imo. Nothing else he has done has come close to Leon: The Professional.

Not my "favorite" Sandler movie, but I really came to appreciate his movies more so while watching them with my son. Still enjoy the Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and Big Daddy. One of my favorite Adam Sandler movies was not typical of his work, but very well done; Spanglish.

I haven't seen this yet, and this isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Citing the setting as the star doesn't bode well for the other parts of the movie, like acting, script and stuff. Glad you liked it nonetheless. Smile
