I'm also not a Tom Cruise fan, but I thought he was fine in Collateral.
Agree...he is a head case, however, I have enjoyed many of his movies.

I knew there had to be someone that did. Razz
guilty...even his earlier work:
Legend
All The Right Moves
Risky Business
Top Gun

Testing my gag reflex MJ?

Legend - Never saw it
All The Right Moves - Meh?
Risky Business - Yep
Top Gun - Yep

The Color of Money
Magnolia
Rainman
A Few Good Men

From "the middle period," I enjoyed The Firm as mindless fun and I recall not disliking Interview with the Vampire, I enjoyed the first 2 Mission: Impossible movies as mindless entertainment as a teenager. I don't know what I would think of them now, though, as I did not like the third.

Recently, I thought he was hilarious and selfless in Tropic Thunder

As a person, apparently he is kind. But I'm just as creeped out as the next guy and I have taken deep personal offense to some of his comments about psychiatry, anxiety disorders and learning disabilities.

Recently, I thought he was hilarious and selfless in Tropic Thunder IMO, the best part of the movie; hilarious!

I watched the first half of Full Metal Jacket last night - the basic training scenes.

R. Lee Ermey just nails the part as the Drill Instructor.
Kubrick is hands down my favorite director. I was lamenting how few films he made when he passed away. Then I realized that his films are so special because he only made what he wanted to make and didn't succumb to the easy Hollywood buck.
"Hombre"

A western made in 1967, with an excellent cast starring: Paul Newman, Frederic March, Richard Boone, Diane Cilento, Cameron Mitchell, Barbara Rush, Martin Balsam, and Frank Silvera.

This is a "little known" outstanding movie, deals with racism, embezzlement, robbery, murder, survival, etc. in 1880s Arizona. Two of my favorite quotes by Paul Newman: "We all die" & You want more than that from me, Lady.
***1/2 stars. (On Direct TV this month)
