"The Hurt Locker"

Excellent movie, excellent acting & direction, but difficult to watch.

Why did you find it difficult to watch?

Rothko,

Two local soldiers were killed in Afganistan last week, 19 & 20 years old, and this movie seemed so real. Again, it was an excellent portrayal of life and death in Afganistan.

Rothko,

Yes, you are correct, the Hurt Locker took place in Iraq.

As I mentioned, I saw the Hurt Locker after reading two stories in our local newspaper last week, about soldiers who were only 19 & 20 years old, and both had lost their life in Afganistan. And you're right, "sometimes we forget that our country is at war". The Hurt Locker was a stark reminder! Again, it was an excellent movie, and I think everyone should see it.

He didn't know who I was talking about. Roll Eyes

mneeley, I really enjoyed the movie a great deal.

My favorite has always been It's a Gift.

"District 9"

What a huge disappointment! A Peter Jackson (King Kong & Lord of the Rings) movie, I was expecting a lot! Most all of the reviews were excellent, and it was nominated for an Academy Award.-------However, it was 2 hours of disgust for me; no, not 2 hours, as I turned it off!

Aliens come to Earth, resembling Giant Prawns that walk, talk an alien language, and are scavengers. Let's see; These creatures are smart and disciplined enough for interplanetary travel, but otherwise, they are scavengers, rooting through garbage, and living in garbage! I never saw the ending, and turned it off after 45 minutes of wasted time.

Although everyone seems to rave about "District 9", this was just not my kind of movie! Two thumbs down!

Oh, Latour67! There was a disease and most of the leadership or intelligent aliens died (except protagonist), all that was left were workers without "initiative or individual thought". The movie was gross, but fun.
"reviewing" a movie that you only saw 45 minutes of, and then assigning it a numeric(thumbs down) score is like most of the tn's here... Roll Eyes

TBird

Wow, that was a good slam! Eek

So, you're disappointed I didn't enjoy the Peter Jackson film, "District 9"?

All I needed was 45 minutes to know that I didn't enjoy this movie at all, and---I stated why I didn't enjoy the movie. "Coco Before Chanel" -French with English sub-titles.

A thoroughly enjoyable, revealing, romantic, bio-pic, of Gabrielle Coco Chanel during her younger life, and before she became the famous couture of the 20th century. Audrey Tautou was enough reason to see the film, but all of the cast was excellent, and the setting was perfect.
Simply, a beautiful film. ***1/2 stars .

Former15, can you not find a better way to spend your Saturday night? Razz

Apparently not. I didn't see it in theaters. I think Dogma is a good movie and I keep waiting for Kevin Smith to make another good movie... Plus, I am a fan of both Rogan and Banks.

On the bright side, on tap for tonight: the greatest cinematography and score of all time (imo, of course). I won't tell you what movie I'm referring to, but it rhymes with "Schmarance of Schmarabia"
