"The Girl Who Played With Fire" ***

This is the second movie in the Swedish trilogy, starring Noomi Rapace & Michael Nyqvist. "Fire" was very enjoyable, but not nearly as complicated & entertaining as "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"

This is a murder mystery which contains several life-like scenes, and only a couple that missed!
The final movie of this trigly should be out in the next few months, and I am intrigued!

irwin,

Yes, I would expect October would be about right. This series has been a real hit, and the USA version is now being casted. I just don't know if any known Hollywood celebrity could top the performance of Noomi Repace as Lisabeth Salander!

w+a,

I believe it is also a TV show, or at least the Lisabeth Salander character played be Noomi Repace is in a TV show in Sweden.

latour67, it appears the USA version may cast well known stars, and in my opinion, this will be a mistake.

You are hopeless! Razz Wink

Well, that was the rumor on imdb!

And, yes... *sighs* Cannot stand that the Harry Potter movies are coming to an end.

To be fair, though, Ellen Page and Natalie Portman, the other two names thrown around that I read, also would have been fine! Wink

Emma Watson as Lisbeth Salander??? Eek Don't you think she's just a little delicate for that roll?

I do think Natalie Portman could pull it off, but although Ellen Page is acerbic, I think she is just a bit too petite for Lisbeth Salander. I still think w+a is correct, get an unknown! Cool

There was a rumor that was the reason she chopped off her hair.

Yes, unknown would be good, depending. The reason I mentioned Page and Portman is that they were also part of the rumor mill.

Rooney Mara, Kate Mara's younger sister.
Recently seen movies:

Animal Kingdom - terrific movie...starts off a little slowly, but is riveting within 30 minutes

The Other Guys - incredibly unfunny...maybe three amusing scenes

Dinner for Schmucks - Even worse than The Other Guys...didn't think that was possible.

Salt - Very enjoyable, if you completely suspend disbelief and plot holes...at least AJ can hold the screen.

Toy Story 3 - Truly disappointing...IMO, the only worse pixar movie is Cars. No original characters or scenes...just more of the same. Felt really tired.

Predators - I had a feeling this would blow when the reviews were decent - critics are clueless when it comes to horror/scifi. A couple decent scenes, otherwise a completely unoriginal, rehash of the first without the charisma of Arnold.

Looking forward to Lebanon - supposed to be terrific.

It has been one dismal year for movies...
Religulous

If you think you might not hate it, it is worth seeing. Funny and thought provoking. I actually consider myself neither an Atheist nor an Agnostic (which Mahr, perhaps correctly, asserts as the only logical belief). But I am truly skeptical of blind following and this certainly reinforced my views. It was interesting to see Mahr tread so lightly on Catholicism, even using it as a rational foil. He was, of course, raised Catholic.

This is a good movie, perhaps a very good movie. It is not an objective documentary but it does not claim to be. Mahr treated virtually everyone he interviewed with respect. (There were about 2 he tried and failed at hiding his feelings about; and one he ultimately cut off the interview because he couldn't take it any more -- an anti Zionist Jewish Rabbi who was present for Ahmadinijad's Holocaust denying speech.)

Overall, I strongly recommend this movie to people who know that the earth is more than 6000 years old. Nothing new, but a well made movie and more engaging than I thought it would be. The flaw in Mahr's logic, of course, is that I believe you do not have to believe every tenet of a religion to consider yourself part of that religion or to believe any tenet of that religion. But, overall, more worth seeing than I would have thought.

I haven't seen the movies, but am reading the first book right now. She's 90 pounds, 4'11". After seeing Ellen Page in Hard Candy, I could easily see her in the role. Emma Watson would be interesting though.

Watched Gangs of New York last night.
