Thoughts?

About what you expect. Some funny parts, some boring parts, too long. If you like Flight of the Conchords, not surprisingly Jemaine Clement steals the film for me.

If you like this type of film, you'll enjoy it. If not, you will hate it (more than some of the others). FKG (f/k/a MLV) and I had a good time - always nice when you can have a nice glass of riesling in the theatre for a summertime fluff movie

Thanks...I have only heard terrible things about the movie.

Not that good, and a surprising melodramatic film from Atom Egoyan, but a love scene between Amanda Seyfried and Julianne Moore kept me watching.

Steve, while still in my Top 10 new movies of the year, I was not thrilled overall.

D loved the movie much more than I did, and we have noticed how women with children (older) seem to connect well to this movie.

I think Atom Egoyan is brilliant but I've not seen the movie. On my 'to see' list.

Exotica was my first experience with him. I was 15 (or maybe 16) and attempting to rent softcore porn, but instead got stuck with an incredibly good movie. Anyone who has not seen it should check it out.

...

Saw The Invention of Lying last night. Cute, lots of good/funny actors, not as funny as I thought it might be. A bit preachy, but not in the way I expected -- not at all preachy in the way I expected, actually. Enjoyable, but not a 'must see'.

The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. I thought it was OK. Book great, movie OK - that is about what I usually say about movies made from books I have read.

I read that David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac) is making an American version of the trilogy and all of my "favorite" actresses are trying to get the lead role. (I suppose I'll give Miss Watson a pass on the new haircut so long as she gets the role and then grows the hair back out.)

Did you ever see Secretary?

Big Grin

Great movie, actually.

Spader was perfect in his roll.

Agreed. Underrated actor, imo. Though I don't think he has as much range as some of his contemporaries (eg. Robert Downey Jr.)
I don't know if that is a good thing or not. The original Excalibur does show some age, but it remains a lush, mythical telling of the Arthurian legend that no other movie has been able to replicate.

Of course, with Boorman directing a remake, maybe the new film would be just as good, with updated effects. I've read that Boorman still has a lot of the props from the original movie (such as the sword, the grail, etc...) that would be fun to see again in a new film.

I just hope he doesn't use his family again for the new film. That sort of creeped me out...
