Ghost Writer

Political thriller/murder mystery, easy on the action scenes, some surprises en route to the relatively predictable end.

We wondered all through why anyone rich enough to afford a beach house like that would leave the walls looking like a 1960s college dorm hallway, if not fire escape stairwell.

A brilliant house, and I loved the walls... very Tadao Ando like.

What did you think of the art?

P.S. I thought the direction of the movie was outstanding as well.

And I liked the house.....except for the walls.

Well, glad to see you know art! Smile

I also agree about Dexter. Wink

Incredible movie. Eddie Murphy used to be so good. What happened?

I wouldn't call the movie "incredible", other than a certain scene with Jamie Lee Curtis. Eek

Ok. But very good. Classic. And if JLC is "incredible", man do I have a list of movies you ought to see. Wink

Not all of her, just certain "attributes." Keep in mind that seeing her revealed like that was a quantum leap from the only other movies I had seen in her in, to that point, Halloween and Halloween 2.
Precious -
I can see why Mo'Nique swept the board (best supporting actress)....but from
seeing her stand-up in the past, I think this was an easy role for her to
play.

In my opinion, some of the credit has to go to Director Lee Daniels and
whomever else was responsible for casting her.

The movie itself? Mehh....I thought it was "above average"...much of
Gabourey Sidibe's dialogue was difficult to understand. Several times I had
to rewind and relisten. Disturbing visuals and imagery.....
I liked the Welfare Case Worker....

Overall I give it 3 out of 5.....but that's just me....Hard to relate to
this movie...I found "Everybody's Fine" more emotional and moving because I
could relate.

I just watched this on Saturday night as well. I think I liked it a bit more than you - probably give it 4 out of 5, but definitely had disturbing parts, as you mentioned. I thought Mo'Nique nailed it, even though she annoys me outside of that movie. I actually thought Gabourey Sidibe did a fantastic job, too. I have yet to see Bullock or Streep's performances (although they are both lined up in my queue), but if they are as good as she was, I will be in for a treat watching their movies.

Interesting that you liked the welfare case worker...you know that was Mariah Carey, right? I'm not saying anything against it, just wasn't sure if you knew that since you didn't mention it.

I was not aware Mariah Carey played that role until about 15 minutes ago. To be honest, I am glad I didn't know...it may have affected my impression of her performance...

LOL. That is why I felt compelled to point it out. Not too many people would be brave enough to admit they enjoyed Mariah Carey's acting. Wink But, regardless of anyone's perception of her, I would agree that she did a good job in Precious.
