We watched 500 Days of Summer last night. Funny and well made, we really liked it.

Mmmmmmm, Zooey Deschanel.
District 9
I, personally, was very disappointed in this movie. I didn't know what to expect walking in, but walked out at the end wondering just what the h*ll was that. I enjoy Science Fiction very much. But this, to me, IMHO, was a Gamer's movie and not much more than that. I'm avoiding more detail to avoid giving anything away for others that might have not had the opportunity to see this. Judge for yourself.

That's all I need to know, thanks. I may watch it when it's released on DVD, but I certainly won't go see it in the theater now.

Hmmmm... I think you ought to see it on a big screen. It will lose a lot (I really enjoyed it) even on a 60" TV.
If only for the production values (a 30m movie that looks like it cost 150 to make) it is interesting, though, as I said, I really dug it and thought that the lead actor's performance was good.

Absolutely agree. One of the worst movies I've ever endured, and after watching it I swore to never watch another M. Night Shamdirectorman film...ever. He got lucky with The Sixth Sense. Shame on the fore-mentioned Zooey for participating in this crappy film.
We watched The Departed a couple of nights ago. I had already seen it once, but after this second time, I really liked it a lot better. And damn if DiCaprio wasn't good in yet another role. I may eventually have to admit he's a good actor.
Gone Baby Gone. The story became predictable after the first 30 mins, but it was so intense it kept me watching the whole time.

I have never seen this movie, but find Affleck a terrible actor.

I find Ben terrible, but Casey is the one who is in it -- Ben directed. I loved this movie. Ben should stay behind the camera.
I thought Casey did a nice job in this roll.quote:Originally posted by winetarelli:quote:Originally posted by wine+art:quote:Originally posted by GlennK:

Fast And Furious
One of those 'un-plug the brain' evenings last night.
Actually was better than I expected. However don't in any way fell that my saying that endorses this movie in any way.

Thank You For Smoking. I thought this was good - very good job all around by actors and a smart, funny movie.

Loved that movie! Tonight: Pineapple Express. Don't waste your time...
J'etaime Paris. Quite the montage of stories with some peaks and plenty of valleys. Tres bizarre.
Nickelodeon. The movie, not the network.
Bottle Shock - I enjoyed the movie quite a bit.
Mad Men, Season 2 - Now what am I going to do, watch Season 3 on A&E with commercials???

I really enjoyed this movie. Aaron Eckhart was great; however, I could do without Katie Holmes, as usual.
That time of the year again - Mississippi Burning and The 13th Warrior.

I thought the 13th Warrior was underrated. First of all, how many movies are there with an Islamic protagonist? And the Vikings are much more complex, clever, and humorous than anticipated; these aren't just ignorant brutes from the North.
I've always enjoyed the movie...
I use 13th Warrior with my epic poetry unit - and specifically tie it in to Beowulf.
And those are very astute observations, Rothko!

Agreed. Even as a former wasteoid, I found little to enjoy.
Revisited Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
9 Lives- It started off as an excellent mystery but became tedious after a while. It should have been 15-20 minutes shorter.
True Blood. If only Vampires drank wine instead of the other red stuff, then the world would be perfect. (Yes, I know Vamps aren't real just reel)

Agreed! She's the only reason I watch "Elf" a few times during the Christmas season.
So I Married An Axe Murderer
I worked on the first cut of this movie (which seems like it was a previous lifetime ago) and still find a good portion of it ridiculously hilarious, especially these scenes...

Friends are over for dinner and we put on the TV in the den with the cheese/pate course. "The 'Burbs" is on. Yeah, I've seen it a few times, but it's a great comedy.

The Soloist- Excellent!
I thought both Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx were brilliant in this one. A great story on the fragility and genius of the human mind, and the power of music. A myriad of emotions with this story; very well done.
