For some reason I recorded Alien: Resurrection. I started it up and even though I hadn't seen it before it was obvious that once again HBO is not showing it in the correct aspect ratio. I will not watch films incorrectly shown so now I have to wait to see this masterpiece.
Ford vs Ferrari
The story, which I didn't really know, was interesting. Bale's performance was good as usual. Damon was Damon. Some good race scenes. Not bad.

You didn’t know the story?
Bale is such a versatile actor IMO. Actually, Damon played Shelby pretty well, but more low key than Shelby was in real life. Shelby went to the same high school as my parents and I met him 10-12 times. He was a true free spirit.🤣
I would give the film a C, but a film that played well at the IMAX theatre my son in laws and I went to the day it opened.
Ken Miles son Peter has had a nice career in racing ( not a driver) as a crew chief.
Over the last few nights:
Spotlight (solid movie that feels a bit old fashioned stylistically - in a good way)
Michael Clayton (still holds up)
In My Father's Den (very good)
Irresistible (lazy writing and directing)
Hamilton - a bit hard to keep up with the lyrics at times. But I can see why it was so popular as a musical.

Do they offer subtitles?
I don't know. I guess I should have tried to find out.
Most Disney+ films have subtitles, if you're looking for them.
Only. A haunting pandemic film for our haunting pandemic times.
Knives Out - a fun little mystery movie.
Marshall
The Hustler....Paul Newman was one cool dude

What did you think? I've got it on the DVR, and will watch it at some point. I just wonder if it is worthwhile or not.
I thought it was worth the time invested. It wasn't great. Just good.
Hamilton film - second viewing
Crazy Rich Asians. Boring and disappointing.
Hamilton
Saw it twice on stage and this, while different, was just as enjoyable because you got to experience things from such a different perspective - close up views of the performers, various angles to really reflect the lighting and choreography, etc. Loved it then and loved it now.
The Darkest Hour. Loved it.
American Made
Palm Springs. I liked it. Stef thought it was mediocre
Watched "Get Out" for the first time. It was OK, but not as great as I had heard.

Hoping you watched it in the correct aspect ratio and didn't miss more than 25% of the movie. Regardless, it is as great as you heard. It also is more poignant than ever with the amount of racism and bigotry continuing to grow in our country.
Color Out of Space. Strange and creepy.

As an H.P. Lovecraft fan I'm hoping that the upcoming HBO show, Lovecraft Country does him justice. As I pointed out in another thread, I can appreciate and enjoy his work even though he was a virulent racist and anti-Semite.
You Tube George Carlin re fevers.
Finally watched Somm last night
Renoir
Manson Family Vacation. As odd as I had thought it would be.
Somm 2 and Somm 3
Green Book - Predictable, but enjoyable.
South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
Must be my 5th or 6th time watching. It is the rare film that is actually better than the filmmakers intended it to be.
Motherless Brooklyn
I loved the book so was disappointed with the film. Norton should have let someone else play Lionel.
The Searchers
Not bad for a film starring John Wayne.
Started Parasite last night before deciding we were not in the mood to watch a film with subtitles.

Oh Steve, John Wayne is in a number of very good films and he's in two John Ford masterpieces, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and The Searchers. In The Searchers Wayne plays against the heroic type he often played into a snarling anti-hero racist who goes on his tormented quest. The opening shot framing shot (which Sergio Leone developed further in his films) is bookended by the famous ending shot--Once upon a time in the West indeed. I am linking Roger Ebert's somewhat dated review that deals with issues of Ford, Wayne and the westerns' views of Native Americans. And as I've mentioned before I consider TMWSLV to be the greatest western of them all.

I would never say Wayne wasn’t in a couple of good films, yet I would say I never thought Wayne was anything special in any film I ever watched, and often dreadful.
For me it's always about the director. As we know from the movie "Seconds" even Rock Hudson can be in a great movie. This happened a number of times with John Wayne being perfectly cast in the two films I mentioned plus a handful of others.
Che Part 1
TOM, you did see that part about the The Searchers being "not bad" right? Sorry but I don't consider it a good performance when the actor plays himself for 115 minutes and then has to act as human being for the last 3 minutes.
And if I'm picking Ford films I'll take The Grapes of Wrath thank you very much.
