I like watching comedies as they help to lift the mood. By the way, do you watch movies at home or prefer going to the cinema? I've recently bought Amazon Firestick, and having installed EXODUS Kodi Addon that allows to watch movies and TV shows (here is  YouTube video with more info https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHtiqPTnKwE), I watch films mostly at home. 

With Jojo Rabbit in theater a companion piece is the frightening 5-part documentary called, The Hitler Youth. The second installment deals with the young girls in the Bund Deutscher Mädel, and there's plenty of them still living. Some are a little wistful for those wonderful times of Hitler and hate.

Hail Caesar

Not a movie that everyone would like or appreciate. I really enjoyed it though.

I avoided this for a year. Then I watched and loved it. The ending is a little weak, but there's so many good scenes.

I prefer the experience of seeing a film in the theatre. But sometimes it just isn’t practical. Honestly, I think I see about 10 to 17 films a year at the cinema these days. To be fair, the experience of watching a 1080p or 4k film on a modern 65”+ TV is a very different experience from watching VHS tapes on a 27” tube like I did growing up.  Obviously it is not nearly as good as the theater, but the calculus is different now, for certain types of films, for me.

The Laundromat - a pretty stellar cast for a movie about the Panama Papers.

Where was it on? I've always been fascinated by it as well. Some of them really cut to the quick and keep coming back to me months later.

Well, as a car guy ( know you aren’t) it was a must see for me. Also, Shelby is a Texas legend and beyond a colorful personality even though the film rightfully so didn’t go into that.

Ferrari was flat broke and Henry Ford II interest in buying them flat saved the company even though the equally colorful l’Avvocato ( Agnelli) bought Ferrari in the end. The film may be better judged by a non “ car guy.” 🙃

It aired on UK TV earlier this year as a 3 part series. It’s in North American movie theatres next week. Not sure if it will be edited down. The Brit version ran 2 hrs 22 mins in total.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Shockingly good. Which is not to say that it is great. Instead, it is to say that I didn’t go in with high hopes and came out thinking it is one of the beat Marvel films. A stand-alone film about 17 year olds. And, you know, the usual.

The Irishman--87pts. What can you say? It's like a comfortable pair of shoes--very easy to watch. The actors all inhabit their roles, they make it look easy. Scorsese's usual trademarks are here--a very upfront soundtrack, unique camera moves, love of detail such as with vintage motels and gas stations. However, there's no real focus and in the end it's all just very pleasant to watch.

His greatest movie will always be Goodfellas, The Irishman is a shadow of that masterpiece.

Midnight in Paris, one of my favorite movies in this decade

Knives Out

We liked it a lot but not as much as expected given the hype and the cast.  The Daniel Craig character was badly miscast I thought.  But it was fun.

Jojo Rabbit 

Really enjoyed this film, though the constant Jewish and Nazi references made me squirm.  And with some very hard edges throughout the film, several quite unexpected. That said, they were totally necessary for the plot and the satire to work.  A masterclass in satire, in fact, is how I would sum up the movie.

 

Long plane flight...watched Woody Allen’s a Rainy Day in NY. I really like Woody’s movies.
