Waste of time.

Watched it as well, as part of my two week experiment with Moviepass...don't know about you, but I sorta knew it was going to be a waste of time beforehand!

If you're wondering why I dumped Moviepass, it was because they wouldn't let me see movies at AMC Century City anymore...fortunately, Costco (where I bought the pass..still available) has the best return policy in retail. FWIW, if I had theaters in my area that took Moviepass, I would sign up in a New York minute!

Agreed. The selection of the movie was made by the GF, but: It's not how date night starts, it's how it ends.

If you watched it on HBO you missed almost 30% of the movie, so I'd say you saw it this way you did miss much.
However whatever the aspect ratio I'll give you two:

!!!!!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!!!!

1. He picks cotton to save himself
2. Why is there the scene of the cop hassling them on the way to the parents' house?

Peele has thought about every shot and scene in the movie and almost nothing is there without a reason.
Examples: Why a lacrosse stick?
Why bingo cards?
Why the symmetry of the house exterior (not visible on HBO) and many things inside the house?

As long as they keep ruining this masterpiece I'm not finished. I tried contacting HBO--good luck. I've tried contacting the PGA (Producers Guild), I tried to contact the NY Times columnist who wrote an article about where to see AA nominated films and he recommended HBO. I can't understand how people, who I'm sure have respect for painters and their paintings, don't think that a filmmaker's vision shouldn't be ruined by eliminating almost 30% of the image. I wasn't going to post a rant, but you pulled me back in.

One of my favorite movies in 2017. Very cleverly made.
Finally bought a Bluray player late last year. Purchase the following shortly after.
Being There (Criterion Collection)- love Sellers in this movie.
Dr. Strangelove (Criterion Collection)- ditto above. In the queue to watch soon.
Blade Runner 2049- Ultra HD version. Fantastic! Incredible sound and gorgeous visuals. I know this can move rather slowly, but it is so beautifully filmed. My favorite movie in 2017.

I can't imagine that this is a financial issue for HBO. They can obtain the film in any format they ask for. I'm thinking that the average HBO subscriber probably gets freaked out a little bit by letterboxing, and doesn't understand why their screen isn't all the way filled up. Kind of a McDonaldization of cinema.

The weird thing, I think I've mentioned before is that they do show some 2.4:1 movies in the correct aspect ratio.
