Dark City
Gods and Generals
Taken - Agree with others' opinions about this movie. Somewhat entertaining but nowhere in the league of a "Bourne" movie.
State of Play - Entertaining movie, with some very good performances. However, I think the dialogue was recorded too low compared to the music and sound effects. That made it difficult to fully hear and understand the dialogue, especially that of Russell Crowe, who has a low, "mumbling" voice to begin with. Still, a movie worth seeing.

Interesting comparison. I just watched a "Bourne" movie last night.
Tried to watch taken last night and this evening but D not 'in the mood' for a movie yet.

I'll give it til tomorrow and this movie is rolling...with or without her
Forget Paris - one of my favorite chick flick movies.

Haha! "I'm hung over!"
Genius
Gran Torino. In some ways better than I expected. However, at times it seemed too eager to balance political incorrectness with overt political correctness. The Hmong girl was a little too flippant to be real. Overall I enjoyed the movie and the characters.
Time to check out Fletch in its new Blu-Ray format.

I've seen this several times and still enjoy seeing it.
An absolute classic.

Finally got a chance to see it.
Worth seeing but predictable. Decent action.

While he has had some other successes -- he wrote Point of no Return as well as La Femme Nikita -- Luc Besson really is a one hit wonder, imo. Nothing else he has done has come close to Leon: The Professional.

Lots of movies this week seen and on tap.
You Don't Mess With the Zohan - on TV. Second time I've seen it. Still my favorite Adam Sandler movie.
HP marathon. (Less than a month to go!)
Also revisiting The Godfather, Part II -- it has been about 4 years since last I saw it. Too long. Ditto Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb. Ditto This is: Spinal Tap.
Not my "favorite" Sandler movie, but I really came to appreciate his movies more so while watching them with my son. Still enjoy the Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and Big Daddy. One of my favorite Adam Sandler movies was not typical of his work, but very well done; Spanglish.quote:Originally posted by winetarelli:

Did you see them on Conan the other night? They certainly have seen better days, but they can still rock.

Taken
Don't think about the possible plot holes or amazing coincidences or some of the darker aspects of the movie. Just sit back and enjoy the satisfaction of watching a very focused Liam Neeson dishing out a major ass-whooping to bad guys who so rightfully deserve it.

Saw the 2009 version of Pelham 123 ... I think I like the 1974 version better. I also saw Angels & Demons which I thought was better than Davinci Code; I loved seeing the Roman sites best.

Was this retribution for having to see Sex and the City?
She's the one who asked me to go.

I haven't seen this yet, and this isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Citing the setting as the star doesn't bode well for the other parts of the movie, like acting, script and stuff. Glad you liked it nonetheless.

I watched Milk, The Wrestler & The Reader on the flights to/from Italy. They were all good and I would recommend each of them. I thought Milk was the best of the 3, with Sean Penn being brilliant and deserving of the Oscar. The Wrestler was a lot more sentimental than I expected and Mickey Rourke was good. The Reader started off a bit rocky, but developed very well throughout the course, with a bit of a strange ending IMO.
Seeing Milk and The Reader finally completed my viewing of all the Best Picture nominees - that is a first for me. I still think my vote would have gone to Benjamin Button, then in order would be Milk, Frost/Nixon, Slumdog, The Reader.

If you enjoyed D-C, you'll really like this one.
I you didn't enjoy D-C at all then it's your call.
I was in the first camp.

Haven't seen it, but it reminds of another Vegas-buddy movie that I liked, but almost no one else did, called Very Bad Things.
Christian Slater, Cameron Diaz, Jon Favreau...anyone? Anyone?

I was in the second camp, and will end up netflixing A&D. I do want to see it at some point.

Far better ways to spend two hours of your life than this.

Rarely do remakes work in my opinion. I enjoyed the '74 version recently.
A remake of Rear Window was even tried. How embarrassing.
Finally got to this last night. A very emotional story indeed! The premise of the movie becomes predictable and a little far fetched (but you want to believe the "purity" of it). Overall I thought it was very well done. Will Smith is on a roll lately!quote:Originally posted by MJAlbers:
