Don't judge, my wife and I were out to dinner with her brother, it was a really hot night and we all wanted to go somewhere cool and just relax, the showtime fit...

That said, while stupid and terribly scripted it was really funny and the two leads had amazing chemistry.

Don't judge? Movies are like wine: if you liked it, it was a good movie, if not, a bad movie.

You can like Meiomi but nothing you can say can make it a good wine... Big Grin
Pawn Sacrifice--78pts.

Many actors and directors have a pet project that they're itching to make if they can get the money. Usually these projects turn into big bombs (the most famous case being, Heaven's Gate. Apparently for Toby McGuire it was to play Bobby Fischer during his epic chess match with Boris Spassky in 1972. This is a very workman biopic that touches all the bases with Fischer's mental illness on full display. I'm sure chess aficionados will find many false scenes that these kind of movies all engender, but it's an OK entertainment if about 20 minutes too long.

Which is the point! You don't like it, it's not a good wine, someone else does like it, it is. You like Central Intelligence, it's a good movie, someone else doesn't, it isn't. This ain't rocket science!

I believe it to be false.
Kameradschaft (Comradeship)--1931--91pts.

Insanely realistic (even by today's standards) film about a French mining disaster. It is based on a true 1906 incident in which across the neighboring border German miners came to help rescue their brother miners (no matter that they're French.) Almost impossible to watch at the horrors inflicted upon the trapped. This is balanced however by the miners' selflessly heroic actions to save their trapped friends and the heroics of the Germans who risked their lives to help. The camera work, which puts you right in the action, has more fluidity then any movie I know of this early.

Side note: The film was shot in the unique aspect ratio of 1.2:1. When Criterion originally brought this out they made an unfortunate decision to change it to the common 1.3:1. So instead of wider side bars you have heads getting cut of the top sometimes, even during the final scene.

Movie night with my kids, and we watched Babe. A bit strange, but it was kind of enjoyable in a quirky way.

The interesting thing is the script is by George--Mad Max/Road Warrior--Miller.

I'll hold off on taking kids' movie night down that path. Wink

I have to say that I'm glad this was a happy ending movie - my girls don't handle scary/sad stuff in movies too well. I still think they need to see movies even if they have a few sad/scary moments, but it's nice once in awhile to not have tears while we watch a movie.

Also great is Babe's voice is by Elizabeth Daily, the unfaithful girlfriend in Valley Girl. As good and eye-appealing she was, she couldn't make it as an on screen actress and became the most famous of all woman voice actress in Hollywood. For example she's the voice of Tommy Pickles (!) in 200 episodes of the horrible Rugrats series.

Two more stars than I would have anticipated.

There were a couple good laughs. And, I was at the drive-in with my lady, which may have helped things. Wink

Probably an excellent choice for one to take one's lady to a drive-in! Wink
