Great flick. Recently, I was shooting the bull with a sales person in my company. She's good, always in the top three per month. I quoted the "coffee is for closers only" line and she admitted she'd never seen GGGR. I thought that film was required viewing for anyone in sales.

We saw Youth last night, and loved it.

I've really liked Michael Caine since I saw him in Alfie many, many years ago; I think last night I saw him in what might be his best role yet. The dialogue was interesting, and left us thinking about, and discussing, the vagaries of old age, and the reflections of past loves. The film also contains beautiful cinematography with some memorable scenes.

On the other hand, my daughter thought it said nothing and went nowhere, but then, she suffers from youth. It's a good thing that there's a lot of different movies available for viewing. Smile

Sea, I hope you have seen The Great Beauty.

I have not, but I see that it's available on Netflix. We will try to find time to watch it in the next week or so. Thanks for the rec!

Foley's best film?

This is not a great director, so you'd have to say yes.

The cast was so bloody great, the film would had been great even if they only had a scarecrow as director.

Oh my, if that were only the case. Too many films that prove that not to be true.
Caught a few movies this week:

Ex Machina: creepy but fun movie, enjoyed this one
The Martian: Did not live up to my expectations
It Follows: a movie about a bad STD
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - I enjoyed it!
Interstellar: Nice, enjoyable
Lady Snowblood: Classic 70's Japanese flick of a pissed off warrior chick - nice

All Good Things, starring Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst.
Spooky, thrilling, tense. Good background music.

From 2010.

Irwin, I assume you are following the Robert Durst saga since you watched this film.

Dunst, not Durst.

Looks like Durst will be spending time in California for a trial.

Got to the end and we both looked at each other in astonishment and said, "Really? That's it??"

I'm a fan of Charlie Kaufman, and the reviews of this have been over-the-top glowing, but there was nothing original or profound about it. Even the stop motion is awkward.

Great writer as long as he doesn't direct.

Reaffirmed my belief that as much fun as GBU is, Once is his masterpiece. And don't mention "...in America."

Agree with this entirely. Once Upon a Time in the West is a brilliant movie. The score and use of the score is exceptional

Would like to discuss with you via eamil. Had a few minor quibbles but otherwise thought it was very good. Interested to hear your thoughts

I also think one of the best openings ever.
