Oh god I love that. "A black pool opened at my feet, I dived in. It had no bottom."
Chandler thought that Dick Powell was the greatest Marlow. Funny to think since he was pretty much a crooner.

Interesting that there were three important Czech movies in a row. After this came Closely Watched Trains followed by Milos Foreman's Fireman's Ball. He off course came to America and made it big with One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

Synecdoche, New York
A film that must be viewed more than one or even two times in my opinion.

Bullet to the head. Awful.

Very difficult film. IMHO Charlie Kaufmann shouldn't direct his own films.
Pain & Gain.
Enjoy Wahlberg in flicks. This one was a pretty enjoyable dark comedy. The film says it is based on a real-life story and shows the pix of the actual perpetrators at the end of the film. In the process of checking out how true to life the movie is . . . because if it's even close, the real life story is completely wacky

The Secret in Their Eyes
Excellent. AFter it was finished, I watched the bonus extra on casting the film. The piece was some auditions for some of the supporting roles. It was interesting to see how some of the scenes had changed a bit -- and one scene had been cut.

Excellent indeed.

Revisited "10".
Haven't seen it in at least 25 years. I think I spent more time looking at the cars and fashions from 1979, than I did Bo Derek's bod. Surprised to see a young(er) Brian Dennehy in a supporting role.

Really enjoyed it. Lots of great characters and what a time in history to be a "fly on the wall" from the Eisenhower to the Reagan Administrations. Difficult to cram three decades plus of history, the Civil Rights movement, interactions with various Presidents, and personal history into a two hour film. There are already some complaints of re-writing history if it is based on the life of Eugene Allen. Lots going on if you are a history buff.

Ugh. De Palma was so busy trying to remake Hitchcock (Obsession/Vertigo) or create a Hitchcock (Dressed to Kill), remake Antonioni (Blow Out) that he never lived up to the potential he showed in my favorite film of his--Sisters.
Safety Not Guaranteed. Enjoyable lightweight comedy with familiar TV faces (Parks and Rec / New Girl) with the promise of time travel.

Frankenstein, 1931
I'm not sure, but this may very well have been the finest Frankenstein movie.

I high;ly recommend the book. It's nothing like the movie.

Hm, I might disagree, but have not watched in years... the music alone might cause me to disagree.

I have read and agree. It was required reading for our children as well.
The Mother and the Whore
Side Effects - really well constructed and enjoyable crime film.
I recently watched Pitch Perfect and thought it was pretty funny.
