Classic. On my top 100 list.
X Men: First Class. I thought it was pretty good.
Silver Lining Playbook - excellent storyline and acting, worth going to the theater to see.
Chronos- terroir courses through this film.
Gearing up for Samsara.

Watched Beasts of the Southern Wild last night.
The fact that a movie like this could be nominated for an Oscar for best movie is a perfect example of why the Oscars are irrelevant to me.

tlv, I think you are just out of step here. This movie is universally loved, from the Academy which are a lot of people with learned credentials, to Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, New York Times and many many other critics.
I completely understand you have an opinion, but when your opinion is so far out in left field I think it is a great leap to use it as an example of the Oscars.

Big Woody Allen fan, but this was so-so.

Jason Statham and I are now best buds...
Nah. Actually the closest I came to meeting him was that he walked right by me as he came in and out of the premier party.
On the other hand, if you ever want to see drop dead gorgeous young women in incredibly skimpy outfits, go to a premier party and ogle them as they ogle Jason Statham...

Glenn, DoktaP, KSC02, Frank, Mims, me and others had a conversation in Canada over breakfast one morning. The Woody question was proposed by Frank. One of the answer offered was, I enjoy Woody movies more when Woody is not in the movie.
Could this possibly be the same for you?

Former 15,
Think of this movie as the final act of a great opera. Great opera is universal, articulate regardless of time or place, graphic portrayals of fragility that are currently intimate or all too well known to be right around the corner for loved ones if not thyself.
The brilliant actors offer us this storyline with grace, yet realism with uncompromising authenticity.
Give it two hours of your life, winetarelli.

I find Woody playing Woody extremely annoying. He is not in this movie much though so I could tolerate it. Penelope is a knockout in this movie.quote:Originally posted by wine+art:quote:Originally posted by GlennK:that is probably why I liked it more than most of his movies.quote:Originally posted by steve8:

The Descendants -- Very good movie. Not really sure why Clooney got a best actor nominee though. He was OK in it but nothing more. The scene where he collapses on the lawn after the party pretty much summed it up for me when he raises his head and looks at the camera with the same look he has in 85 percent of the movie. The actress that played the oldest daughter was much more deserving of a nomination.
The Whistleblower -- pretty good movie about a disgusting topic. What humans will do to each other, or maybe more accurately what men will do to women, can be truly disturbing.

With Woody out and Penelope in , I may have to seek this out and give it a chance

Took my son to see Red Dawn. Not so good.
El Bulli: Cooking in Progress -- a bit slow (and the subtitles were sometimes difficult to read) but pretty fascinating and enjoyable overall.
The Grey.
Moonrise Kingdom in the queue for later.

Had you never seen it? Great film, imo.
First time to see it. Very good movie, shows all the bad sides of drugs.

Absolutely.
Return of the King - the Director's Cut.
Taps - Been a long time since I saw this movie. A very young (and scene-stealing) Tom Cruise in this one.

Life of Pi, one of the best book to film adaptations I've seen in a long time.

Beasts of the Southern Wild - This did absolutely nothing for me. I found reading about the film more enjoyable than watching the film (which I actually did while watching the film). I thought the (non) actor who played Wink was excellent although the 6 year old was nominated for Best Actress, which I didn't get at all. Her dialogue rang hollow to me as the film was told through her voice, but her words and use of language was of an adult and not of a child. The melting and rejuvenation of the extinct Aurochs from the ice, was too Ice Age animation for me to link to the story line. It just seemed artificial. One thing I did read about this film is that it is considered very divisive: you either love it or hate it. Not much middle ground here.
Friends with Kids - romantic comedy with adult themes. Fair.
Big Miracle - weird true story I don't remember reading about or watching. I suppose it's a feel good family film, but the under story is how all parties spin public relations, including Greenpeace, the State of Alaska, the Inuit Indians, Big Oil, the Reagan Administration, Russia, and local and network television news. Fair.

Well, at least it appears that I'm in step with somebody.

The Paperboy - a great cast. That's the only positive thing I can say, as we stopped watching it about 20 minutes in. Aimless, boring and creepy at the same time.
MIB 3. God awful....

HA! Felt the same when we saw it
Ditto. I like director Barry Sonnenfeld's older work: MIB 1 and 2, Addams Family 1 and 2, Big Trouble and Get Shorty, but the most recent MIB 3 was a turkey. The only part of the film worth seeing is Josh Brolin play Tommy Lee Jones. Really, really well done.
I just started watching the third season of The Walking Dead.
An old favorite, not seen in years:
Dead Again
Dead Again
Watched a couple of episodes of the first season of How to Make It in America. Not overly excited about.
