Salt Kind of pedestrian action thriller, I thought.

The Girl That Kicked the Hornet's Nest I liked everything about this except the very end. Didn't seem the weakest by any means, unless you dislike courtroom dramas, although the actress did seem bored of the role. Interesting to see how Swedish court proceedure differs from ours.
The Next Three Days -- Overall I enjoyed it; I'd say 3 out of 5 starts

The Fighter -- Excellent. I can see what all the fuss was about.

The Wrestler -- I can see why this got praise from the critics, but I found it a bit bleak and depressing. Maybe I just wasn't in the right place to watch this. It is hard to believe that the star in this movie (Mickey Rourke) is the same person that appeared in Diner years ago. I'd give it 2.5 starts, but I wouldn't argue with anyone who liked it much more than I did.
Regarding Rear Window: I understand that it's a classic, I understand why some would put it in their top ten of all time, shooting an entire film from one room is a great concept. But, once I got past that, it was a very good movie, and I could have gone with ***1/2 if I'd seen it on a big screen, but it wasn't ****, no way. I preferred Vertigo, NbNW, Psycho, Strangers on a Train, even The Birds. Yesterday was the first time I'd seen Rear Window, and while it was novelly and well photographed, I found some of the twists predictable (any doubt the dog would end up dead?), and the chemistry between the leads was forced, at best. Very good, absolutely. Great? No.

Outstanding. A top ten war movie in my book, easily.

Funny that I was thinking it was one of the best war movies I've seen also. Have to say I'm in the Winetarelli and W + A camp on Rear Window. Not sure I'd put it in my Top 10 of all time, but certainly one of my favorite Hitchcock films. And Grace Kelly is stunning.

The 10 yr old loved it. I found it tedious.
+1. Meh...

I had the same reaction. My son enjoyed it though. Who would have thought the fat kid from Freaks and Geeks would be a leading man?

On a side note: For those of you who are collectors, do you know what the most valuable Thermos lunchbox of all time is? Yep, the 1960's Green Hornet. Guess what luchbox I had, and is now long gone? Right again. Frown
The Tourist

I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a huge A. Jolie fan or J. Depp fan. First, the ending was way too easy to figure out. Second, I could have cared less about the character Jolie played. She played the character with this strange air about her that I found boring and made it impossible to connect with any character.

After watching this movie, I begin to think about how many movies I've liked Jolie in. I've never seen Girl, Interrupted, A Mighty Heart or Changeling, so maybe I've just never seen her at her best, but I'm not sure other than looks why she is a star.
Going to the movies tonight, not certain what we'll see yet:

We all are willing to see Bridesmaids, Thor, and Fast Five, the second two of which might be much better on the big screen... but the movie we all really want to see is Midnight in Paris -- "they" say it is Allen's best movie in many decades. I don't know if the big screen will help it, though.

[edit] Well, apparently, Midnight in Paris has not opened here yet, so that is out.

The Great Raid

An average to good movie made better because of the subject. Movie is based on the largest rescue mission in U.S. history, freeing of 511 POWs from Cabanatuan camp in Phillipines. Archival footage at the end of the movie is truly inspirational. One could do worse if looking for a movie to remember why we celebrate Memorial Day.
