I have visited Chateau Domeq and L.A. Chetto wineries in Mexico. The best bottles I found were a malbec/cabernet 50/50 from Chetto that was good, 86pts 8 bucks american or so. I have a bottle of barbera from the same place still in the cellar as well as a bottle of 1994 Chateau Domecq that will be opened soon.

The wines at Domecq mostly were pretty crappy, all tannic and hot, whites were too acidic or boozy. They also make Presidente Brandy and if you talk to the right people you can taste the good ones.

At Domecq they give you 2 bottles with the tour/tasting and both were undrinkable. The Chateau wine is good though in comparison. Worth a try.

If you are looking, try wines from the Valle de Quadalupe. Thats the area that has the wineries up and coming. If you find some, post notes and we can track our mexican wine times
