They'd better get that Floyd/Manny fight done, one of these years. . .

Floyd has been ducking Manny cause he knows he will get his ass kicked. He calls himself "money" but refuses to put his moniker where his mouth is. That undefeated record is all he has going for him, and he knows it will vanish within 5 rounds of stepping into the ring with Pacquiao. Pac-Man agreed to the testing and Floyd still is afraid to fight.

After last night, the possibility of a Mayweather-Merchant fight became more likely than Mayweather-Pacquiao. Only way that fight happens is if Floyd loses before then, and needs to reclaim his position among the all-time greats. Getting in the ring and defeating Pacquiao would do that. But if he stays undefeated, he will not risk his record with Manny, even if he makes $60 mil for the fight.

Pathetic. You are not the best, until you beat the best. Mayweather is so caught up in himself, he doesn't realize that.

Overall, definitely an annoying card, seems like it had the opportunity to be so much better.

Clearly an early stoppage, but Gomez was done. We purely missed a few more seconds of Gomez getting his ass kicked, and not him getting back in that fight...though for the price I paid for this card, I agree, I would have enjoyed that few more seconds.
Let me first start off by saying that I can't stand Mayweather. I've been waiting for him to get his ass handed to him for several years now. Now with that said, here's what I took from the fight...it was clear to me from the very first round that Ortiz was out-classed, plain and simple. I went in knowing that Ortiz had to take advatage of his size and strength over Mayweather, and continue to pressure him from a very close distance to have any shot of victory. All I saw was Ortiz keeping a distance from Mayweather, while shockingly, Mayweather was the aggressor (a boxer who is most known to be on the defensive). Mayweather was landing a shocking 50 percent of his power punches, and in the mean time, remaining extremely elusive to hit (as we've long come to expect of the very quick and tactical fighter). Heck, there was one round where up until the last 30 seconds or so, Ortiz had only managed to land 2 of his total punches thrown for crying out loud.

I was watching a fight that even so early on, was so blatantly obvious to end in a later round TKO or decision favoring Mayweather. I saw absolutely no chance Ortiz would win that fight, and even Larry Merchant, who had the infamous blowup with Floyd after the fight, agreed to that assessment. At least we got one of the most obvious, dirty, intentional head-butts I've seen in quite some time followed by a legal and just as dirty sucker punch that lead to a knockout. We likely got more excitement out of that than we would have from the inevitable 8 or 9 round to 3 or 4 decision victory for Mayweather. And I may be generous there...I could of even seen a 10 round to 2 decision.

These fights continue to show me that the biggest problem with boxing today is there's only 2 fighters worth a damn, and no one can challenge either of them with the exception of the 2 getting together and giving the world one of the biggest fights in the history of boxing. I, like most others, truly believe that Manny will hand it to Floyd...hence why Floyd's been ducking this fight for a couple years now. The problem is that there's no one else out there that can beat Mayweather, and in turn, there's no one else out there that can even give Manny a challenge but Floyd.

The inverse could be true, easily: That Manny would need to beat Floyd to cement his own legacy as well. Don't discount Floyd. Nobody is a better defensive fighter, nobody.

I absolutely agree that nobody is a better defensive fighter and I agree that Manny need this fight to cement his own legacy as one of the greatest of all time, but Manny has agreed to all of the terms that Floyd has mandated, and still Mayweather is ducking Pacquiao. Floyd's defensive style will run into a buzz saw when he steps into the ring with Manny. Pacquiao has such an unorthodox style of boxing, throwing punches from multiple angles that it makes creating a defensive game plan nearly impossible. Couple that with the fact that he might be the most well-conditioned athlete in any sport (not only can he throw punches at a blistering rate, but he is able to maintain that pace round after round after round), and Mayweather would be in a world of trouble.

I love Manny as much as the next guy, and agree he's certainly one of the most well-conditioned athlete's in the world, but Georges St. Pierre of the UFC clearly holds the top title. GSP is a freak of nature. Manny may do a couple little things on the side...politics, spend time with his family, etc. I don't even think GSP goes to the movies, the guy's entire life is eating right, conditioning and kicking ass.

I have seen some of his workouts. The guy is a machine. Unfortunately, I'm a boxing guy and just have never gotten into MMA.
