Up at the cottage for a seafood weekend.  Night 1:  Gigas and Raspberry Point oysters, Littleneck clams (both raw & steamed), salmon and scallop ceviche, King crab legs washed down with:

2013 & 2015 Raventos i Blanc  Cava Gran Reserva de la Finca

2007 & 2008 Recaredo Finca Serral Del Vell Brut de Brut

2012 Liquid Farm Chardonnay White Hill

2007 Montelena Chardonnay

2013 Rivers-Marie Occidental Ridge Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

2008 Evening Land Pinot Noir la Source Seven Springs Vineyard

2004 Thomas Pinot Noir Dundee Hills

All the wines were good.  For me, it was a toss-up between the Thomas and Evening Land.

How was the 2008 Recaredo Serral del Vell, and how did it compare to the 2007? 2008 was an outstanding vintage in Sant Sadurni, but everything Recaredo rocks. I haven't opened any of my 2008s yet.

2013 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Maestro Collection Limited Release followed by

NV Sandeman Founder's Reserve - this had been given to us as a house warming present 5 years ago and I dug it out - a fairly inexpensive Ruby Port.  Nothing special but reasonably tasty and certainly enjoyable.

Was that BV a Garagiste Mystery Wine by any chance? What did you think? If it’s the one I think it is, my first bottle was pretty flat.

Yes, it was.  Was big and oaky and a good companion for the smoked brisket we had it with.  Was nothing special, but nothing wrong with it eithe

They were both really good.  The 2007 Recaredo might have been a little more minerally while the 2008 seemed a little more bready/yeasty.  Both excellent with more evolved flavours compared to the two Raventos..

Night 2 of our seafood weekend:  more Gigas and Raspberry Point oysters; white anchovies with olive oil, vinegar, garlic and parsley; ceviche with salmon, sea bass and wild-caught shrimp; pan-seared tuna; beef bourguignon (needed some meat!)... all washed down with:

Codorniu Seleccion Raventos Brut

2008 Gimonnet Oenophile Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut

2015 CVNE  Monopole Clásico

2005 Domaine Grand Veneur CdP Les Origines

2005 Domaine Charbonnière CdP  Cuvée Mourre des Perdrix

2009 Castelgiocondo BdM - drinking beautifully with a PnP. Perhaps it shouldn't have, but this totally exceeded expectations.

I think this wine is much maligned because it's from a very large producer, but I've found it to be a consistently solid BdM at very reasonable price. The riserva is even better.

Totally agree. It’s often overlooked by snobs.
