Mets vs. Royals.

boring.

If one doesn't have a rooting interest in a team, most WS are boring. Being a Cubs fan, I would much rather see the Cubs in there, but I thought all the final four teams had compelling storylines being that none have won for quite some time. For that reason and because I think the Mets/Royals offers an intereting match up between the Mets pitching and the Royals hitting approach, I'm looking forward to the WS. That being said, given the teams and that I think this could be a relatively low-scoring series, I expect TV ratings won't be very good.

I'm rooting for the Royals. I've always kind of liked the Royals going back to the George Brett days, and I like to root for small market teams if I don't have a natural rooting interest. Plus I can't root for the Mets being that they just beat the Cubs.

Congrats to the Royals, though this Series would still be going if the Mets could handle Little league plays in the infield. Murphy's error in Game 4 and Duda's throw last night sunk them. Hosmer would have been out by 10 feet if Duda could have executed s pretty simple throw.

even that game 1, david wright error across that pulled duda off the bag.

i'd say game 2 was the only game where you could say the mets bullpen imploded for the loss

i wouldnt' say that

i'd say it was a bunch of in field errors that really costs the mets

the starting 4 acutally lived up to billing in my opinion

Familia giving up the Gordon home run in the bottom of the ninth of game one didn't involve any errors. He also blew another save opportunity in game 5. Four of the five runs in the top of the 12th in Game 5 were earned runs.

Agree the Mets' starters were great. The errors were costly but the bullpen failed.
Picked up an ace and kept all the blossoming prospects. It's not my money and there's no real salary cap, so as long as they aren't going to let it hamstring them in other areas of need spend away. His numbers in the AL East parks are ridiculous, especially at Fenway. Sub 2.00 era there. They can worry about the post season if they get there, which has been an issue lately for them. As long as he doesn't pull a CC and fall off the map in a few years I'm happy with this. And even if he did, CC brought NY its first title in years. Would you give it back for a lower payroll now??
But there is a luxury tax if your payroll for the year is over $189 million. Of course, only the Dodgers and Yankees had to pay it last year.

Even adding Price's $31M for the year to last year's payroll, the Red Sox don't quite hit it. Of course, they aren't finished yet and you have to assume that their payroll will go up a little but considering that their only arbitration eligible player is Rick Porcello, I doubt it will be by much.
Dang, Arizona is adding some pitching. Greinke first and now Shelby Miller.

Cubbies went the cheap(er) route, picking up Lackey for I believe two years and then several fringier RPs to bolster the pen. Don't love the contract they gave Zobrist, but I think he is a great add. Picking up Warren from the Yankees for Starlin Castro helps both teams.

These moves mean the Cubs won't resign CF Fowler. Zobrist will likely take over CF and lead off for the Cubs. It is also unlikely that Baez is moved since he will now be the full time 2B (provided he cuts down on his K's). I also expect Warren to be slotted into the rotation (Arrieta, Lester, Lackey, Warren and Hammel) which leaves 26yo Kyle Hendricks as the odd man out.

I hope you're right. Warren was versitile for the Yankees.

Yankees needed a 2B bad, and while Castro isn't a world-beater he is solid -- though frustrating. When he gets hot he can carry a team, but he also has some painfully bad streaks. But he's only 25 and I believe under contract for 4 or 5 years at a "reasonable" amount. Warren gives the Cubs flexibility. He's likely never going to be more than a #5 (possibly #4) starter, but the ability to move him back and forth between rotation and pen is something that Maddon will love. So, win-win for both.

I agree Zobrist will probably lead off, but I can't see the Cubs playing him full-time in CF. He's started 24 games in CF in his career. So I don't think it is a done deal that Baez isn't traded (though I'm guessing he's not). I think they'll bring in someone (or 2 players as a platoon) to play CF and find Baez 60-80 starts at each of the infield positions.

Heard the Giants had offered 60 million over the same time period but Zobrist wanted to play 2nd and that would not be possible with Panik so signed for less money with Cubs to play infield. That is the propaganda from this area.
I think that makes sense Juicy, though Zobrist originally being from IL might have had something to do with it also. I think he'll play some OF as might Bryant to open up some starts for Baez if he isn't traded. Maddon likes to mix and match, those 2 being able to play some OF, Baez being able to play 3 infield spots, and Schwarber being able to play OF and catcher play right into what Maddon likes to do. Part of the reason the Cubs wanted Zobrist from what I've read is that as VM points out he can bat leadoff, which means the new CF(s) don't have to have that ability. So someone like Heyward, who supposedly has the Cubs on his short list with Cards, Angels and maybe Nationals, would make more sense. It might come down to whether he wants to play CF full time, which he would have to do with Cubs and likely not with STL and LAA.
