Took in the Jays last regular season game at Rogers Centre yesterday. It was Fan Appreciation Day and they had Jays hoodies for the first 20,000 fans through the gates. We arrived an hour before the 1pm first pitch and were told they ran out of hoodies at 10:30 that morning.

When Donaldson spanked his game-winning, walk-off solo shot over the left field wall in the bottom of the ninth, the place went bananas. The game was over, but no one left their seats. Say what you will about the fickle nature of Toronto sports fans, but it's good to see that kind of excitement in Toronto again.

This season is yours. Make plans for the parade.

A favorite slogan floating around STL is that the AL Central chumps (KC Royals) would only be good enough for 4th place in the NL Central. Smile

Cardinal Nation

Of course, all three might have found they won fewer games if they each had to play KC 14 times in a season.

Or KC would be sitting at home and done for the season. One could also wonder how many additional losses the Royals might have if they had to play an additional 42 games against 90+ win teams... Maybe we'll get a chance for an I-70 WS redo.

The NL has 6 teams with 90+ losses vs. the AL with only 1. The 2nd worst team in the AL has 46% winning percentage vs. the 2nd worst team with 36% winning percentage.

So the AL is more evenly balanced thus STL would likely not have as many wins if it were in the AL.

The Jays or Royals will crush the Cards in the WS. I bet the Cards and their fans will be the classiest most knowledgeable losers in WS history though.

I believe the Cubs qualify, no? Wink

It would be exciting to see the city get alive, but also based on where I live...it'd just be a bit of a pain! I'd be happy with either the Cubs or Pirates moving on to the World Series, but it'll be tough.
I really like the Cubs chances against the Cards. The Cards are one of the softest 100 win teams I have seen. Probably the weakest rotation of any of the playoff teams and are limping into playoffs. Losing record in Sept and Oct including losing 4 of 6 to the Cubs.

On the other hand, the Cards definitely have experience on their side and seem to always find a way to win. Should be a great series.

First time these teams have ever met in the post season.

Not to mention that the Cubs have a history of being the Cubs, thus always finding a way to lose.

Having been burned many times in the past, I should know better than to get my hopes up. But, here I go again.
I haven't seen much of the NL this year (if I'm watching baseball, I'm watching the A's usually). But dang, Arrieta is a beast. When he came out struggling after getting plunked in the 7th...I thought Maddon should have pulled him. Little did I know. I also loved that he stole second base after getting hit. Arrieta is now one of my favorite players in the world.

It's also crushing to be an A's fan and watch Donaldson be a candidate for MVP candidate, the future of your franchise playing SS for the Cubs, and the guy you traded for him starting game one of the NLDS...on the exact same team.

All valid points and sums up the team quite well. They're simply winners and find a way to get it done. I hope it continues as I don't think there are any dominant teams this year.
