Pretty good? That is a massive understatement. That's like saying a 1982 Margaux is an okay wine.

I hadn't been paying attention to baseball news during the winter so just learned yesterday that Scherzer is a National. You guys paid way too much for him. A rich long term contract for a 31 year old pitcher?

We did pay up for him, for sure. With the prospect of losing both Strasburg and Zimmerman to free agency next year, and since Scherzer's contract is "back-loaded," I can't question the decision. One thing the Nats have done well is to build from within and make good decisions on free agents. Time will tell. He looked very good yesterday. Too bad the dinged up Nats didn't give him the support his effort deserved.

Mets are favored today. Yankees do have a good team, but their top four starters were all on the DL last year. Nova isn't due back for more than a month. Their season is dependent upon the starters remaining healthy and Teixeira and A-Rod having good years. Bullpen is excellent. Beltran looks shot and Gregorius can't hit or field- some shortstop!

The O's and White Sox played a game at Camden Yards with no fans in attendance. That must have been a surreal experience. Reading some of the comments from Showalter was pretty funny.

At the game, Caleb Joseph (O's catcher)went to the stands to feign signing autographs. They played the Star Spangled Banner, prior to which the announcer said, "Will everyone please stand for the playing of the National Anthem" which is what he says every game.
The game lasted only 2:03, even though there were 10 runs and 15 hits, and three pitchers per team. No commercials and no 7th inning stretch.
Weird.

No commercials? The was televised and on the radio, wasn't it?

Am I the only one watching baseball games?

This sounds wierd but I am paying less attention to baseball because ESPN changed their website. I relied on Buster Olney's daily blog to keep me updated and I cant find it anymore. I used to be able to see all the scores at the top of the MLB page on my phone and now that's gone. I look at the standings about once a week to see how the Braves and Marlins are doing and thats it now.

I'm following my Tigers, but honestly I rarely pay attention to anything else.

The Tigers are a very different team this year, but the injury bug is catching up.

In a complete 180 turn from previous years, the Tigers are actually a good defensive team, with Iglesias back from his tibial fractures (but now he's back on the bench with a recurring groin injury), and an almost completely different outfield. We actually have some speed on the base paths, too. The other big change over the past two years is the loss of Scherzer, Fister, and Porcello from the starting rotation, and Verlander is on the DL and hasn't pitched a game yet this season, so essentially 4 new guys in the rotation. What hasn't changed is our horrible bullpen, although it looks like Soria has emerged as a reliable closer. Just need a good set-up guy. Joba Chamberlain is just not cutting it.

I hate the new website too. Liked the Chicago link at the top of the homepage that gave you all the happenings in Chicago sports. Can't find that link anymore, and have to type in the web address.

To find the Olney blog, go to MLB home page and then you'll find it under Blogs.

Yeah, he is crushing it. If he stays healthy he could have a monster year.

I have been very happy with the Dodgers so far this year despite a very shaky start of the season by Kershaw.

For right now, I'm sure you're just paying all your attention to another sport where grown men go around hitting things with sticks.

Don't worry, in a couple of weeks it might make a little more sense to you.
But then again, you live in Chicago, so maybe not.
Of course, I can't say much, as my Tigers are totally stinking it up lately.
