We were in Rome last August and had a great time. Of course, one morning we took our 14 year old to see the Forum, and after hours of walking around and getting a tour of the Colliseum, we were very hungry. So we walked to the other side of the Victor Emmanuelle monument into a little plaza and ate at an Enoteca (wine and excellent food). Great pizza and salads. The name of the restaurant is Vinando (translate as "wining") on the Piazza Margana. Look on the map...you'll enjoy it.

Side story is that I saw Gaja's Gaja & Rey Chardonnay on the wine list by the glass....10 euros and ordered it. Well, the wine I got was no chardonnay. It was a Gavi di Gavi, and I told the captain that the wine I received was not the wine I ordered. He traced the claim and agreed they had served the wrong wine. Well, when I got the bill, they had charged me for the Gaja wine...a difference of 8 euros. Of course, they changed the bill....but they tried to pull a fast one on the Americano. Don't let my experience bias you...it's a terrific place, especially for a fellow wine guy.
Cool Sorry, Board-O, no recs on where to eat...however, you brought back, for me, great memories. Two years ago, with my then 15-yr-old daughter and her friend we brought along. Watching my baby girl, standing in front of the Vatican, taking holy water, blessed by the Pope, in her hands, from one of the fountains there, and rinsing her face. Sheer joy...
