I hope some of the waiters from Lantana are there. When we get down there in December, I'll call Rick, the owner and ask about BYO. It'll be an extra 15-20 minutes to get there, but we'll go, for sure.
Cavaillon is gone now also. Since 2012 though? I need to get out more.

Let us know. We may be away for Christmas, but maybe we can meet up.
Will do. I'll contact you probably in late November.
Red, the Steakhouse in Boca

Do you know what happened?
Palena, in DC.
Had been there a dozen times. I hope Frank Ruta re-surfaces somewhere nearby. Soon.

Tampa, on 3/24 we lost our Palm Steakhouse.
Wasn't a surprise, could feel it coming for months if not years. Could have been fixed with commitment and investment from Corp. along with the right management team. Lost our go-to, "cheers' spot and some great service professionals lost their jobs.
We'll all survive…eat drink and be merry and find our respective next.

Mi Piaci.
One more place we could sneak wine in that is now closed.

No. We loved the place. We went there every time we were in Florida. It was always busy.
Just read that Hot Doug's in Chicago is closing October 3.

Too much hype and hooey. Just give a good Chicago hot dog joint any day.
231 Ellsworth in San Mateo, CA

Can't be for lack of business. That place is always packed. I thought it was good when I was these last year.quote:Originally posted by CSM:

I don't know about that. The sauternes-infused duck sausage with the foie gras and duck fat fries were pretty spectacular. And they probably made my favorite Chicago-style dog too. I loved the place and am sad to see it go.
The owners apparently said they were tired of running a restauarant and wanted to do something else.

Foie gras! Thank God I live in a state that protects us from overfeeding geese.

This was a major loss. One of the very best restaurants in DC, or for that matter, anywhere else. Here's hoping Frank Ruta shows up somewhere else that I can get to.

Have you been to Dean Gold's new place yet?

Just saw Fleur de Lys is closing in SF

Not yet. He got a nice write-up in the Washington Post last week.

Love this restaurant . . . very neighborhood-y. Couple (I think) who owns it were always very welcoming
last time I was there on a Thursday night though (~5 months ago), it was not even 1/2 way filled at 7:30pm. That said, they had a great run
lost four in Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens in last 2 weeks. Summer season they die like flies. Also a forced closure of Tiki Bar due to a redevelopment by a city.

Yeah, the Tiki Bar will be missed. That was an Old Florida style place. Their Ahi tuna appetizer was surprisingly good.
On the Island, Gigi's Tap & Table closed down, in the Esplanade on Worth Avenue.

it was my favorite restaurant in SF... times are changing, and everything is moving towards gastronomy wonders... shame that a restaurant that was intimate, without tables placed 4 inches from each other, and served excellent food, gets lost in the shuffle.

I still regret that FKG and I opted to go to Postrio when we were in SF for our Honeymoon (in 1997) rather than Fleur de Lys.
Regions in Catonsville has closed. Cometspider's neighborhood.

Bummer. Offlined there several times, most recently with g-man and Mrs. g. I liked it.
What about its sister restaurant, Catonsville Gourmet?

Still open. CG is accepting gift certificates from Regions.
I remember my wife and I going to Catonsville Gourmet once and meeting friends. It's a seafood and fish place for those who don't know.
I guess they have a token steak on the menu.
Anyway, my friend brings a nice vintage bottle of a red Bordeaux, I think '89 Ducru B. Worst wine food match in history.

There has been alot in the news in NYC due to rent increases. Latest one that I liked was August in the West Village.
Former San Diego Padre Randy Jone's Sports Grill went out of business.
Sad to report the demise of Cafe de Paris, in Columbia Maryland. This was the site of several offlines, and some informal dinners, and numerous personal visits by my wife and me.
I particularly remember one Bastille day, where we sang French songs to the guitar playing of the owner.
Au revoir, Erik.

I enjoyed many good meals here. I did find that the overall quality had dropped a little over the past few years. Hope the owner lands on his feet. He is a good guy.

I dined at Tra Vigne this week and excellent once again.
I was sad to hear that their lease will not be renewed after 28 years. I think their lease ends at the end of this year.

Not lost yet, but I was very upset when I recently heard the news that the original 13 Coins restaurant in Seattle, voted one of the top 5 late night restaurants in the nation by Food Network Magazine, is going to be a victim of our own brand of Urban Sprawl.
For those that don't know, the south Lake Union area, an admittedly neglected space for a few decades now, has been systematically bought up, block by block, by the likes of Paul Allen (Vulcan Enterprises) and Jeff Bezos (Amazon), in order to house and employ their legions of tech workers. The location that 13 Coins occupies has apparently been targeted for one of their high-rise projects.
Since 1967, this has been the best, and now only, 24/7 restaurant in downtown Seattle. And is now the last bastion of gracious dining in a city gone mad. I have been immersing myself in their leather, high-backed captain's chairs at the counter of the exhibition kitchen and enjoying the old-school service and vibe for well over 30 years. They will be sadly missed.

Not lost yet, but a favorite of mine, The Riverhouse, in Palm Beach Gardens, just sold and is likely going to change significantly.
Liu Brothers has been sold, and their last day as is will be 12/31.
