Many of the Toronto Cru know Le Select Bistro as a great place downtown that does corkage and serves great bistro food. I can't count the number of bottles I've opened there. Their property tax has risen 550% since 2005 because they are zoned as a condo! They are not a condo, they are a great bistro where we can take our wine to enjoy. Check the video on this link. There is a petition. https://www.change.org/p/premi...heart-out-of-toronto

This out of towner can vouch for what a great place it is. It’s amazing how the "leadership” in big cities allow so much stupidity to happen regularly.
Who puts these people in "leadership" positions in the first place?
Chicken vs egg. Were they stupid to begin with, and the electorate didn't recognize it, or does the "leadership" position engender a rapid development of stupidity?
Personally, I think it's the latter. Ergo, they all suck or soon will.
They are being taxed at the value of the property's highest and best use which in some perverse way almost makes sense. At least you can understand how they might come to such a silly reasoning.
But as vincentric says, they are NOT a condo so until they are (if ever) they should not be taxed as such.

It doesn't make sense to me Rob, because it ends up with a pro developer making cookie cutter decisions on rezoning or reclassifying use of existing businesses, many of which make up the culture and quality of their neighbourhood. I do agree that it's perverse
There were so many great places in my area, which didn't survived the pandemic
Same in our town. I guess all the businesses need to adjust to a new reality and extend their operation to the virtual word. Most of the young people these days are making purchases online and communicating through tools like Microsoft teams sms and without offering them what they want, you will not get new clients and business can not survive.
