LCBO Vintages Release - October 2005

I hope we don't have to start up a "Futronic Fund" to help him pay his rent in October.

This could be a VERY expensive month for anyone that collects Italian reds.

I will likely be passing again completely as there is nothing that I HAVE to own and my recent purchases during my last 3 trips to the US have been just crazy.

I can recommend the Green Spot Irish Whiskey. For me it is a bit of a cross between an Irish and a Scotch. But it is quite nice.

I might grab a few bottles of Tatone Montepulciano D'Abruzzo. I think it's pretty decent for the price. That's about it.

Not much of interest to me either.

Thank God there's nothing there I need, though I might try the Yalumba "Y" Series riesling, just because their other "Y" Series varietals are so good for the money and it is so cheap.

I'll second winerguy's recommendation of GreenSpot Irish Whisky.

The two Redbanks on offer (viognier and shiraz) would interest me. I've not had them but Redbank is normally a pretty reliable producer and the prices are fairly good.

Yeah ... I'm going to need to pimp myself out to afford the Barolo and Barbaresco in that release. BTW, to anyone looking for a great quaffer, pick up the Tatone that mitchie listed. It's great stuff.

I'll be picking up the Beauchene, which usually delivers good QPR. I think it's the LCBO's first CDNP release of the blockbuster 2003 vintage.

I actually think the regular bottling is a very fine wine, even at $95. Admittedly, it's not exactly a good QPR, but I will likely buy some. The SS, on the other hand, is not worth the money.

Hey Slan. I have been very impressed with the few Caymus wines I've had. This is not a hit at the winery, but at the LCBO pricing. I beleive the regular Cab is around $60us.

I think the regular Caymus bottling goes for about US$65-70, so that's about C$80-85. $95 doesn't seem too bad.

I still have the receipt for the 1991 Caymus Napa that I was drinking like water a decade ago. $18.99US less 10% for buying a case.

It is a great wine but $100 is pushing it. The prices for the SS and Napa bottlings are pretty close to what you would pay in the US. I was there last week and the Napa is $69-79US and the SS is $120-140US.

You still have the receipt but, more importantly, do you still have the wine?!

I'm still impressed that the LCBO dropped the price especially with these bottles. Caymus carries big brand recognition.

I guess the price is somewhat inline with the US market. Maybe I'm still upset from it being $99 a few years ago when I think it was double the US price.

Many of the recent vintages of Caymus Napa sat on the shelves for months and seemed never to sell out completely. It is good wine but I prefer the 2001 Dominus ($109), 2001 Spottswoode Napa ($99) and of course the 1999 Bell Cellars (discounted from $85 to $65).

Catalogue finally arrived today. Perhaps the regular bottling of the 2002 Caymus, but not much else of interest.

The October 1 release may finally be one from which I buy nothing. Good thing too, after yesterday's release and the Classics catalogue (provided of course that I actually get something from the latter).

Somehow I missed this one. Guess I'll be contacting my friends in TO to do a little shopping for me, again.

That Chiarlo Tortoniano must be an error. 2002?? It must be 2000. Fut?

Does anyone hate getting innundated with these catalogues every 2 weeks as much as I do?

I used to look forward to getting them but now it is too much. Very hard to keep track of what is being released when.

I agree. It feels like I've got catalogues coming at me every which way, and out my yazoo!

Thank goodness you said that Baird. I was starting to think it was me and my advancing age. I couldn't remember what I ordered from the futures vs classics vs Monthly release vs special releases. I'm sure you get my drift.
Not to mention the wines we arrange through one another via SAQ (thanks steve8) and from friends travelling. I need another secretary just to keep track of what I've ordered, plan to order, and keep inventory. I certainly won't ask Mrs. DP. Then she'd know what I really spend on wine!

The LCBO is trying to confuzzle people. That way they'll spend even more on wine than they already do.

I think the LCBO marketing director that took over about a year ago needs to be packaged out before she totally screws things up. I would be glad to add my boot to accomplish this with a sense of urgency.

The 1997 was great, but I wasn't a big fan of the 1998. Maybe the 1999 will be back to the quality of '97 and earlier vintages.
