Yesterday afternoon there were a few markdowns to be found at the Laird/Wicksteed store:

2012 Tenimenti d'Alessandro Syrah Cortona Il Bosco - reduced from $62 to $43.45 (I like this wine and ~$40 seems like a decent value to me.)

2013 Petra - reduced from $75 to $52.25 (The price seems excellent. I tasted this wine from an earlier vintage and found it very tannic and oaky; however, the wine had just been bottled and may have benefited with some cellar time.)

2012 Rocca delle Macìe Sergio Zingarelli Gran Selezione Chianti - reduced from $100 to $70 (James Suckling may love it but you would have to have your judgement questioned for paying $70 for a Chianti made by Macie.)

1954 De Muller Aureo Seco Anejo - reduced from $40 to $21.25

I bought a 6 pack of the 06. Tried one last year and it was a total mess.
Thanks, guys. I didn't notice the others but considered buying the Petra but didn't. Bought a bit of this and a bit of that but nothing on sale. The PC told me all the good stuff was gone.

Was happy to get some 2011 Convento San Francisco Special Selection Reserva because I got some 2005 a couple of years ago and loved it.

I stopped there on my way home a couple of weeks ago, and I don't think I saw a single thing on sale.

Mercifully, the only one on the list above I might have bought is the amarone. If there were lots of New World bottles similarly reduced, however, well, I don't want to know!
Hmm, seemed to be a good weekend to scoop up some goodies. Here is what I found at Southdown and Lakeshore in Mississauga (all 20% off).

2010 BdM Andretta Reserva
2009 Chateau La Croix du Casse Pomerol
2012 Barolo Gramolere
2015 CdP Mas de Boislauzon

There were at least 10-15 decent products on sale and quantities (yesterday) were still good.

Received good reviews by most critics (not just JS). CT reports are meh. At 20% off it might be worth a try to get your own opinion. 19 bottles left.

Had this many weeks ago. It was meh... so meh that I hardly recall it. Not worth $50 original price.
Yup, thats pretty much in line with other reviews.

Too bad, the 2011 was decent-good (nothing more).

The Clearance Center up at Crossroads may have become a bit confused about their role, but the stores are still allowed to put wines on sale.  Laird St is the flagship store for Australia and, because they are doing some renovations, they are doing a major clearout of wines in that section as well as some sale items in other categories.

The ones that caught my eye are

  • NV Brimoncourt  Brut Rosé Champagne  $38
  • NV Jean Noël Haton Classic Brut Champagne  $31
  • 2001 Cirillo Estate 1850 Old Vine Semillon  $30
  • 2015 Wakefield St Andrew Chardonnay  $24
  • 2014 Rockford Frugal Farmer Grenache  $30
  • 2013 Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard Trueman Cabernet Sauvignon  $67

At crossroads.  For anyone who enjoys stake.

According to Winesearcher, this goes for around 25 Euros (tax incl) in Italy.  This seems like a pretty high clearance price.

I think the LCBO has lost its understanding of what 'clearance' means.  It's not a price increase!

Eglington/Winston Churchill store in Mississauga has Norman Hardie's line up 30% discounted. Many more (total of 70 products)

Gave the 2015 Chardonnay a try last weekend and can't say I was overly impressed.  The critics seem to like it more than I do.

Hi OTW,

I picked up the unfiltered Pinot Noir (Niagara) and it came across a bit watered down and showing a soft backbone. Not impressed either. Well, it was worth a try.
