Tried one on the weekend. Not dead, not over the hill, but not overly exciting...however the last glass was better, more aromatic and fuller, primarily because the fine sediment in the bottle got a little agitated, giving it more of an aroma and flavour of aged Bordeaux. I probably wouldn't get it again, but if I did I'd give it a shake before uncorking (not kidding).

On another note, grabbed a bottle of 2012 Pipeau because it was on sale for 10% off...I like Pipeau as an everyday drinker...don't judge! Anyway I wanted to pick up a case so I checked inventory yesterday, and the "Limited Time Offer" for the Pipeau and everything else in the offer indicated that it was available until November 26...great, no need for me to rush out yesterday to get it, as I thought it was only open until November 5. Went to get some today, and of course it was no longer on sale. Whichever of the multitude of useless LCBO fucktards who was responsible for updating the limited time offers updated the expiry date to November 26 but failed to update the list of wines, so everything listed yesterday as expiring on the 26th actually expired yesterday. Its like deja vous all over again, yet another item to add to the countless list of technical and website errors for these incompetent clowns...wasting valuable minutes of my time, then causing me to type this rant and waste valuable minutes of your time.

We should do an "I confess that I like" thread lol. For me just looking for some solid reds with good balance and structure (or at least some satisfying elements even if a bit of a fruity mess), and reds that don't disintegrate or turn into prune juice by day 2. Pipeau usually makes the grade for me.

Ports for sale in Ontario rarely check even one of those boxes, much less all three. Stock up! I did!!

Oy vey. Now I have to buy some of these. You guys are killing me.
Champagne and Port. A starter and a finisher for dinners. Thanks for all the suggestions to my fellow LCBO comrads.

Thank you Bman! I picked up 4 today. Also happy that I got some of the 1991 in half bottles $21.95 USD a little while back. At the time I was unfamiliar with the Guimaraens but figured it was worth a go at the price.

Since you guys have covered off the before and after dinner ... how about with dinner?
Vintages conducted a Board-wide Delisting effective October 30, 2017 and there were quite a few bargains there.
My store has sold out of most of these but it may prove worth a look at your local stores.

#396440 - 2015 Buena Vista North Coast Chardonnay - went from $24.95 to $20.75
#94375 - 2015 Duckhorn Napa Sauvignon Blanc - went from $35.95 to $29.25
#416511 - 2016 Vasse Felix "Filius" Margaret River Chardonnay - went from $24.95 to $20.75
#446682 - 2015 Vasse Felix "Filius" Margaret River Cabernet / Merlot - went from $24.95 to $21.25
#912782 - 2015 Penmara Orange Reserve Shiraz - went from 19.95 to $17.25
#487165 - 2015 Laurent Perrachon Roche Bleue Julienas - went from 19.95 to $17.25
#108282 - 2011 Zenato Cormi Corvina / Merlot - went from $21.95 to $18.25

I like a quality wine more when it has a high value quotient.

Fyi. I know it's not discounted, but I just saw that they have magnums of the Barolo in stores now for the holidays.

Let's see what happens on Monday. There's a biweekly delist coming up and sometimes stores jump the gun on it. Fingers crossed.

Fut's correct. It was just a local in-store markdown... and I just picked up the last 4 bottles.
I popped into Crossroads yesterday to check out the Clearance section. It was filled to the gills with wine plus a bunch of sake. None of it at a clearance price except for a couple of bottles of Grossett Picadilly Chardonnay that have been there since August, and most of it was frankly a bunch of crap.

So the KGBO seems to have turned it into Crap at High Prices for the holidays.
I tried a bottle of the 2013 Fontanafredda last night. It was ok for an entry level 2013. It's softer than what I'd expect from the vintage and drinking ok now for what it is. It starts with a classic Barolo nose then red cherry on the palate but finishes a bit thin. For $25 it's fine but I wouldn't be putting these away as I have other 2013 Baroli.

I also had this over the weekend and agree with VinC notes. Ok, but nothing to back the truck on.

If anyone is still interested. Oakville Lcbo (Oak Park) has them for $19.85. Make sure to check the price with the cashier.

I suggest trying one within 30 days, and chilling it a bit. The bottle I had was pretty much room temp, which didn't help it. It's a close call. If I was buying 4 I'd buy the Castello. If I already had 4 of the Fontanafredda I'm not sure..

That 2014 Billaud-Simon Tonnerre is a really nice PC Chablis, extra minerally and still pretty tight. I've had it twice and think it will age better than many other PCs from this vintage that I've tried. I bought 6 on release, and then 6 more a couple of weeks ago. (It's $52 here in BC; unusual for the price to be higher in ON)
Oak Park in Oak has some good wines marked down worth checking out. Here are just to name a few:

13 Chapoutier Crozes Hermitage Les Varonnieres (30%)
12 Carpineto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva (30%)
06 Duval Leroy Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Brut Champagne (30%)
and lots more...

If you are into Whiskey try Meadowvale in Miss. They have Dalmore 15, 18 and 21 marked down.

VINELOUSE, thanks for the tip on Oak Park. My score of the store was 2014 Fevre Montmains Chablis for $28. Lots left on the shelf as of this afternoon.
I'm driving back from Toronto to Ottawa tomorrow morning and was thinking of passing by the Laird/Wicksteed store en route to the DVP, as the PCs there seem to enjoy marking down bottles that are regular price everywhere else. Is that still the case or are the prices there the same as elsewhere? Has anyone been there lately and if so, are there any deals there?

Since you don’t check your text check your email...
Yesterday afternoon there were a few markdowns to be found at the Laird/Wicksteed store:

2012 Tenimenti d'Alessandro Syrah Cortona Il Bosco - reduced from $62 to $43.45 (I like this wine and ~$40 seems like a decent value to me.)

2013 Petra - reduced from $75 to $52.25 (The price seems excellent. I tasted this wine from an earlier vintage and found it very tannic and oaky; however, the wine had just been bottled and may have benefited with some cellar time.)

2012 Rocca delle Macìe Sergio Zingarelli Gran Selezione Chianti - reduced from $100 to $70 (James Suckling may love it but you would have to have your judgement questioned for paying $70 for a Chianti made by Macie.)

1954 De Muller Aureo Seco Anejo - reduced from $40 to $21.25

I bought a 6 pack of the 06. Tried one last year and it was a total mess.
Thanks, guys. I didn't notice the others but considered buying the Petra but didn't. Bought a bit of this and a bit of that but nothing on sale. The PC told me all the good stuff was gone.

Was happy to get some 2011 Convento San Francisco Special Selection Reserva because I got some 2005 a couple of years ago and loved it.

Mercifully, the only one on the list above I might have bought is the amarone. If there were lots of New World bottles similarly reduced, however, well, I don't want to know!
Hmm, seemed to be a good weekend to scoop up some goodies. Here is what I found at Southdown and Lakeshore in Mississauga (all 20% off).

2010 BdM Andretta Reserva
2009 Chateau La Croix du Casse Pomerol
2012 Barolo Gramolere
2015 CdP Mas de Boislauzon

There were at least 10-15 decent products on sale and quantities (yesterday) were still good.

The Clearance Center up at Crossroads may have become a bit confused about their role, but the stores are still allowed to put wines on sale.  Laird St is the flagship store for Australia and, because they are doing some renovations, they are doing a major clearout of wines in that section as well as some sale items in other categories.

The ones that caught my eye are

  • NV Brimoncourt  Brut Rosé Champagne  $38
  • NV Jean Noël Haton Classic Brut Champagne  $31
  • 2001 Cirillo Estate 1850 Old Vine Semillon  $30
  • 2015 Wakefield St Andrew Chardonnay  $24
  • 2014 Rockford Frugal Farmer Grenache  $30
  • 2013 Hickinbotham Clarendon Vineyard Trueman Cabernet Sauvignon  $67

According to Winesearcher, this goes for around 25 Euros (tax incl) in Italy.  This seems like a pretty high clearance price.

I think the LCBO has lost its understanding of what 'clearance' means.  It's not a price increase!

Hi OTW,

I picked up the unfiltered Pinot Noir (Niagara) and it came across a bit watered down and showing a soft backbone. Not impressed either. Well, it was worth a try.

Was at the German store in Waterloo. A few markdowns for German Riesling lovers!

2013 Burg Ravensburg Husarenkappe Riesling Großes Gewächs $36.65 (was $52.30)

2014 Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Ruppertsberger Gaisböhl Riesling GC $48.45 (was $69.10)

2013 Markus Molitor Kinheimer Hubertuslay Riesling Auslese *** $108 (was $153.35)

2014 Markus Molitor Saarburger Rausch Riesling Auslese *** $103.25 (was $147.40)

There was more discounted. Most of the stuff is wines that have been at this specialty store for a while.

No problem. Very good selection at Sherway N Queen location. I got 4s of Salute Burgundy, Cabernet and White for $20 per and 4s of Willsberger for $49 per, the latter available in White and Burgundy.  They also had a more angular modern format for $18 per 4 pack but I didn't like the style, also some stemless formats in both $20 range.

did you see any kicking around anywhere? i had 3 of these, drank 1. it was perhaps the greatest bottle of Bordeaux i have had. &$*%ing fantastic.

The Laird St Vintages has brought in a lot of the unsold 2015 Bordeaux futures.  I bought:

2015 Cos d'Estournel

2015 Ducru Beaucaillou

2015 Haut Bailly

I cleaned out the Cos but there are more of the Ducru Beaucaillou, Haut Bailly and many others left.  If anyone is specifically looking for the Cos, you might try the Summerhill store.

Welcome to the forum. Which bottle did you like? I'm also confused: you're going back to the LCBO for more of it, but you live in Madrid?

Maybe that explains why there are so many out-of-stocks at the LCBO in the past 2 months.  I heard they brought in a distribution system that no one understands - probably because they are shipping wines back to the countries of origin.  That sounds like the kind of jackass thing the LCBO would excel in.

That and blocking access to The WineMuddler on their in-store wifi ...

Had to dig this thread out of the dumpster.  The Lcbo has taken the pandemic as an opportunity to reduce hours, limit access to stores, ban product returns, and keep the shelves out of stock.  It reminds me of stories about people lining up for rations in Communist Russia.

Well today the Laird St Vintages raised its fist against 'social responsibility' and put a bunch of wines on sale at 20% off.  They used to do 30% discounts but the politburo at head office has come down on them for doing that.  Expect them to send the Laird St staff to the gulag for breaching policy.

I would assume they would ship anywhere in Ontario, not sure what the fee would be.

I work for an agency (Noble Estates) and our mix cases aren't "live" yet. You would have to look around to see what others are offering. They will be pre made cases. So you can't pick and choose each bottle. (LCBO rule)

There's the KGBO trying to be helpful and f**king it up again.  Rob's suggestion of customising the pre-made cases might be the answer to playing their stupid game.

Draining the swamp means getting rid of the LCBO!

The stool softener worked!  The Laird St Vintages are discounting a bunch of losers, and a small number of decent daily drinker wines, by 25%.  Some of the ones I made note of are:

and for fans of domestic Niagara wine:
