Spotted this on the shelves for the first time last week, and had to give it a try. No proper TN I'm afraid, but I'll open another one soon, side by side with the '00 and '01.
The '02 is a nice and fruit-forward wine, and it seems better than the '01, but not as good as the '00. It's very smooth as well, and does not appear to have much ageing potential. Anybody else tried it yet?

I think central Italy was just soaked in 2002 that people are staying away in general from the vintage. Unless somthing gets wildly recomeended and is a good price, I don't see myself buying any 2002 wines from Italy. There are lots of decent QPR 2001's (and earlier) still on the shelf here

I've opened 3 bottles over the past couple months. First bottle opened well but faded fast. Second faded even quicker; the third was similar to the first, and half the bottle is still sitting in my wine cooler.

I believe there are many decent RdM's out there in this price range that are better. I have been surprised at how many 2002's are better than I anticipated, probably because so many of the BdM grapes were added to these in such a sub-par year.

Antinori didn't even bottle their Tignanello for 2002 it was so lean.
Have to agree with Louzarius on this one.
My 14 year old daughter is hosting a Halloween party upstairs, so I am bunkered in my den (with plenty of ordinance should the boys get out of hand) and am imbiding as I type. Eek

Upon opening, it seemed to me much more harmonius than the '01, though less fruit showing. This is paired with some roasted/salted pumpkin seeds.
After an hour (not decanted) it really is fading fast. After opening it seemed like this was going to be another winner like the '00, showing lots of black cherry and sweet oak, but now it's starting to become a little astringent (note: I haven't stopped drinking it, though), the fruit is almost completely gone, and it has an extremely short finish. Unfortunate. I won't be buying any more. My score: 80

I've noticed this astringency, too, with the '01. I've never finished a bottle of this. I bought a case and am thankfully done with them. I'd go a little higher than 80pts... maybe 83, but that's about it.
