i'll certainly have to put it on the list to try as I haven't opened any of the 94s yet.
It was a really good year in porto that I would hazard to geuss the 94 grahams would still be young, youthful, sweet, fruity and showing some tannins, but still the plummy fruit dominating most of the flavors.

The bottle came from perfect storage since release and was inserted in a 1982 Bordeaux themed lineup tasted blind. The bottles opened were Haut Brion, La Tour Haut Brion, Leoville Las Cases, and another from the right bank, but can't recall the name. It came in 3rd that night behind the Haut Brion and La Tour Haut Brion. Great wine.quote:Originally posted by VinCentric:quote:Originally posted by Shane T.:

How was this one Shane? Have you had other older vintages? I'm interested in which are the better years for older Howell Mtn cabs.
Thanks Max! Some older Cali Cabs really do seem to show well vis Bordeaux. The 75 Mondavi Reserve we had last year at the Cos/Pl offline was the hands down favorite over the 75 PL.

How did the 95 show? I have one standing to go with the cassoulet I'm making this weekend.

I like the food pairing. The wine is at its peak, IMO. Although there were thoughts that this wine had some heat damage, since it seemed that the fruit had faded.
Thanks mareff. Haven't had it in about a year and a half but my last bottle was surprisingly young so I've laid off them for a while.
2010 Ceritas Chardonnay Porter-Bass Vineyard – Very, Very nice CA Chard. Reminded me of an 08 Les Combettes that I opened recently.
2010 Cambria pinot noir (Julia's Vineyard) - disappointing and bland.

Which producer from the vineyard of Les Combettes?
Domaine Matrot. I've enjoyed both the 07 and 08 recently. Really good stuff.quote:Originally posted by wine+art:quote:Originally posted by GlennK:

A few good QPR wines over the past 2 nights:
2009 Joseph Chromy Tasmania Chardonnay - quite intense stone fruit flavours
2008 Domaine Charles Audoin Marsannay Clos du Roy - nice bright acidity and ripe cherry fruit makes this a good food wine
2008 Domaine Gille Cotes de Nuits Village - great nose with dark cherries and dark plum flavours make this a rich and flavourful wine. Again, acidity goes well with food.
All of these wines were $25 or less and bought at the LCBO.

I liked this as well, although, I found it to be a touch disappointing, in that I felt it was a step down for the 2009.

I've been impressed with how some of these older California cabs have been showing as well. A couple years ago I was fortunate enough to score a lot from auction consisting of 3 cases of older cabs ranging from the late 50's to early 70's, all from perfect provenance. I've went through near a case of these and only had 1 bottle to not show well do to a faulty cork. The best cab I've had to date, regardless of region or country, has been the 1969 Inglenook Estate Bottled cabernet sauvignon. Amazed at how that bottle showed.quote:Originally posted by VinCentric:quote:Originally posted by max:I tried the 1982 Dunn Howell Mountain late last year and it was fantastic. The '75 was showing well but was still a little muted versus the '70. You can drink and enjoy but I don't think you need to be in a hurry.
Thanks. Most of the 1975s I've had have really been tannic, not quite to the extent of the 1986s, but without their depth.
1987 R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva - Absolutely a beautiful wine. So graceful and very burgundian on the palate.
2007 Felsina Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia - IMO, this is a great QPR wine.
