2014 Arianna Occhipinti Cerasuolo di Vittoria Grotte Alte
Very enjoyable. My first impression was that it was a bit simple and thin but that wasn't the case. It actually has good depth and complexity. However, I don't think it's worth the $70 CAD tariff. I'd prefer a base Terre Nere Etna Rosso at less than half the price.
2002 Domaine Gros Frere & Sour Bourgogne Hauts Cotes de Nuits - Punched way above expectations. Nose was great on decant. After 1-2 hrs it opened up beautifully with red berries/cherry, forest floor, mushroom & spice. Tannins were present but soft and integrated. Medium bodied with great balance.
2012 Rivers Marie Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast last night with grilled pork chops. Still one of the best qpr's in Pinot Noir year to year.
2004 Mas d'en Gil Coma Blanca- I bought six bottles years ago and held this one to see how it aged. It was medium gold in color, with a mixture of tropical fruit and nuttiness. This is the best Spanish whiye I've ever had, a 50-50 mix of Garnacha Blanca and Macabeo. The previous bottle, 3 or 4 years ago, was the best.
Got a keg of Yuengling and a keg of Black Daze Black IPA from Ellicotville Brewing for our Buffalo Bills boys week-end. 17 Guys and the kegs will be done in two nights...

Will be at a friend's house from Buffalo. He's making wings and we're bringing cheesesteaks. Everyone will be bringing stellar wines.
FYI Yuengling is a pretty much considered a Philly beer. It's brewed in Pottsville an hour or two from the city LOL

It was really nice despite the tannins being a little firm still. Great dark fruits and a spice component. We popped and poured; an hour of air would have been a good idea.
2017 Poggerino Rosato Aurora Toscana
Last night at my place with a group of the Toronto crew. WOTN for me was the 1990 Bollinger. But everything showed exceptionally well. All the reds were fantastic.
FYI we opened the 2016 Piantonaia - the wine that Galloni gave 50 points, calling it abysmal and horrendous. We drank it alongside the 2009. The 09 was superb. The 16 lacked the structure and depth of the 09, but it was a perfectly enjoyable, fruit forward, early drinking vintage of Piantonaia. The general consensus was that it’s a 88-90 point wine.

Excellent, but started to fade at the end of the bottle. I'd drink up.

It's still a tannic beast. HOLD!
We realized pretty quickly last night that it was not very approachable, so only a third of the bottle was consumed. At the end of the evening I stuck it in the fridge. I pulled it out this evening, poured a glass and let it warm up... and it's still a monster.
Thanks. I'm not too surprised to hear that. Le Macchiole is one of those wines which I not buy any more of. Little brother, yes.
