Hey Mimik, how did you like that Faustino?

I like Faustino because dollar for dollar it’s  hard to beat for an aged wine that is enjoyable and affordable. It’s not the greatest vintage but it’s typical Faustino rioja with gallops of oak and with some red fruit. This is not a wine that will develop more in the bottle beyond say 5 years. After 2 days in my fridge, it fell apart. But very nice in my opinion 

Dinner a couple nights ago:

2010 Domaine does Lambrays Les Loups MSD - drinking really well, and perfect pairing for a whole roast duck 

1995 Zind-Humbrecht Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain - post-meal surprise.  Residual sugar a bit higher than I’d like, giving off a flavor reminiscent of creme brûlée that had been torched a couple seconds too long.  Not unpleasant, but I wouldn’t wait much longer to consume if I had any in my cellar

1980 (bottle date) Sunny Brook Kentucky straight bourbon - from a 200ml.  Nose was fascinating, with a plantain note most prominent.  Vanilla, cherry and plantain on the palate were harmonious.  Been really enjoying opening up a bunch of “dusties” I acquired this past month.  The contrast between what bourbon was like decades ago to what’s being distilled now is interesting, to say the least

2007 Querce Bettina BdM. Corked soaked almost to the top, but the wine was in a good place. Loads of cherry fruit and zippy acid made this a great match for grilled chicken thighs. 

1997 Beaulieu Vineyards Tapestry Reserve

The BV Georges de Latour gets all the attention, but the BV Tapestry is no slouch - and cheaper. This particular bottle was superb and at peak. Black fruit, sweet tobacco, pencil lead. Very Pauillac.

@ VinT- the corks on the 2007s (Riserva though) I’ve opened were similar to yours.

Mine also. That's why I've already drank all my bottles of this vintage.

All were great with the exception of the Clos de l'Oratoire, which was good.  The trio of Giacosa's was stunning, as was the 2009 Voghera Riserva.

I would say the Fuligni is just entering its drinking window after 3 hours while the VdS is darker and more modern but the oak is still too prominent. I'm hoping it will integrate with a few more years.

2012 Chateau Valandraud St-Emilion. Modern but very well balanced. Tasty

Much better than last bottle consumed at release. Great with an hour decant. Got a few more and while it might get better with age I'll probably drink these sooner than later

Well done.  I'd be good for any ONE of those tastings, maybe 2, but not 3 back to back inside of 30 hrs.
