An eclectic selection.

2015 Fattoria di Felsina Berardenga Maestro Raro

How was the 2015 Maestro Sunny? I would expect excellence in the vintage but no doubt young?

I could only do an hour slow ox. All the elements were there, but it was disjointed. Revisited it the next night and it had come together nicely. My first Maestro and I was impressed. I have three more that I’ll bury for at least five years, if not longer.

My Top 10 over the long weekend in Nashville with some of the Tahoe crew.

1989 Beaucastel

1996 Dunn Howell Mountain

1995 Gruaud-Larose

1991 Caymus Special Selection

2001 Schrader Original To Kalon Vineyard

1998 Rayas Pignan

2007 Pegasi

2005 Pierre Usseglio Mon Aieul

1973 Beringer

1997 Ornellaia

Did a little cellar organizing over the last couple of weeks.  Ran across a dozen forgotten 375s buried in the back of the coolers.  Tonight with dry rubbed St. Louis ribs:

2005 Beringer Private Reserve.  Smoking good.  Dense.  Moderate tannins.  Perfect with the meat and sides.

2007 Chalk Hill Estate Red.  Punching way above its price point.  Simply lovely.

fwiw, neither of these wines were guzzled.

2013 Element Winery Syrah - beautiful example of a cool climate Syrah.

I tried that at their tasting room although not 100% on the vintage. I thought it was very good, but pricey. Especially when the exchange rate is factored in.

It's spendy for sure, especially with the exchange.  It came as part of our shipment for the wine club a year or two ago though, so it's a sunk cost for me

We had one a few months ago with a longer decant, and it was excellent although I agree too young

I've had a 97 and 07 before, both of which I drank at about 10 years of age, and they were excellent. Really elegant style of cab. Hopefully the SAQ will bring in the 2015 which is where I bought the above mentioned bottles. Did you get yours at the LCBO, private import or the US?

Recently

2016 Poggerino, Chianti Classico

Solid CC. From my limited tasting so far 2016 is another strong vintage for Chianti, although not as good as 2015.

2016 CVNE, Rioja, Monopole Blanco

Really interesting wine. I was afraid it would be another one of these white riojas made in a slightly oxidized style, but thankfully not despite the fact they do blend in a little sherry. Nutty and citrus flavours.

2004 Clos Triguedina, Cahors, The Black Wine

Huge. Opened up with some air in a decanter. How many years does this wine need? Will I be taking a dirt bath before the bottle of 2009 I have is really ready?

2008 Stefania, Cabernet Sauvignon, Crimson Clover

Drinking really well, but could still use some time. I have one bottle left, which I'll hold until it is 15.

You are finally coming around to liking the style. Glad to hear.

US from Envoyer in July 2018, delivered last month. FWIW, despite the strong vintage, Galloni gave the 2015 an average review. He gave the 2011-2014 scores of 94-95+, but the 2015 was a 90. "The warm vintage has baked out most of the varietal character this wine can show in more favorable years..."

Over the last week or so...

2010 Revana -- delicious.  Would love to try more from this producer

2013 Alpha Omega Stagecoach Vineyard Cab--really good, preferred the Revana though

2003 Clerc Milon--meh. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing that made me want to have another bottle either.

2007 La Rioja Alta 904--always good. Easy to drink, pairs well with food.  Great value
