so...as i am looking to start a real collection, past my 40 or so cheap bottles that I have now, I'm wondering two things:

1) What kind of annual financial commitment do you think a vinophile should expect to put out?

2) What the &@!$* do you all do for a living that you're popping $250 bottles of wine all the time, and that you have 750 more waiting in the wings???

When you're starting your collection, spend more than you think you should. You'll want to buy wines to age and they won't get any cheaper. You'll also want to buy early drinkers so you don't drab the agers.

2) What the &@!$* do you all do for a living that you're popping $250 bottles of wine all the time, and that you have 750 more waiting in the wings???

If you want to get truly serious about this then you had better be willing to commit upwards of 10-15% of your annual income for the next 10+ years. No, I'm not kidding.
