Insignia 2001 or 2002

01 Insignia is singing right now....30 minute decant, not more....really gorgeous

I bought a lot of both vintages, but have had only 2 of the 2001 and 1 of the 2002 so far. These are both going to get a lot better. If you must open one, I don't think it makes much difference which one. Give it a long decant.

just had '02 last sunday and was pop/pour...had it over 2 hours along with 10+ other nice bottles. the insignia really stood out for me as one of the best bottle that night! very nice nose with super smooth sweet tannin...glad i still have few left

I have had a few of the 02's recently and they seemed somewhat flat when forst opened, but by end of dinner they started to show a bit of promise. So I agree that a long decant if you go with the 02.

I had the 02 in December 2010, 30-45 minutes of decanting and it was drinking beautifully smooth will age longer, I am not sure that a "perfect" time to open a bottle as this exists, it has a range and now is within the range. Enjoy whatever you decide

Both are drinking great - decant either for an hour.

Had the '02 two weeks ago tomorrow and it didn't start singing until about hour 4, but it was nice. Haven't had the '01 in years... -mJ

Based on this discussion, opened an '01 last night for a dinner party. Decanted for 5 hours and drank it over 2 hours. Initially very tight, but blossomed incredibly into dark berries, some spice, peppery undertones, with firm tannins, despite being 10 years old. This one will cellar well for many years. Mostly cab sauvignon with some petit verdot and malbec. Still quite youthful. Matched this with a prime ribeye with a mole ancho dry rub.
