Do you know the rules around driving wine into Alberta? Let's say you have a half dozen cases. Can I drive it into Alberta, pay $3 / bottle + GST and go from there? Do you think I need to show an Alberta home address?

It's the port of entry that matters. If you entered through Alberta, you pay Alberta duties.

Has success been had with shipping from Alberta to Ontario? Any idea on cost?

With all the wine I've been picking up in the states, I'm starting to really entertain this idea.

It's technically illegal to ship between provinces.

I know. But...

My Sister in Law shipped me some "olive oil" from Alberta last year. I think the cost was around $4 a bottle if shipped via Canada Post.

Star I have never been stopped when driving cases (of alleged) wine between provinces. Having said that if you are that concerned, I’m sure you could contact the AGLC and they would calculate the appropriate taxes. Every interaction I have had with them has been excellent, prompt, and thorough.

I was actually talking about driving wine into Alberta from the US. Does anyone know the cost of doing that?

I called the aglc awhile back and they said you would be charged the same duty as if you had shipped it, so the 3 bucks plus 5%

Are there any good storage options out there (reliable/economical)? I have overordered and have made fewer pickup trips to NYC than expected, maybe I should ship the whole lot to Alberta and pick them up when visiting relatives out west.

Depending on the amount of wine you are talking about (my space is quickly getting maxed) I would hold the wine for you until you made it here. Free of charge + a good bottle of wine opened when you picked them up.

Well it probably won't happen any time soon (particularly because a good portion of my wine down south is 08 and 09 futures ordered from a store in california) but that would probably work out quite well, once the opportunity arises to ship these wines or the ones I have stored in NYC (about 13 cases I think) lets see if we can arrange a delivery and mini-offline.

The next trick will be finding a place in NYC that will ship to Alberta...my wine storage facility will not ship anywhere out of state. If I had more time I would just do a road trip myself.
