Happy 83rd to Dame Maggie Smith
Happy 71st to another Smith: Patti Smith
If you have not seen her version of Dylan's "Hard Rain" that she sang at the Nobel awards, it's awesome.

Never saw it before, haggis. Amazing, emotional and powerful. Even with (and maybe even more so) for the little flub. Thanks for the tip!

Would love to hear what Dr. King would say about today’s political environment?

Indeed. Had he not been murdered, he would be celebrating his 89th birthday today. I don't think it would be a very happy one.

They could have used him tonight as my Bruins kicked their sad Hab butts for the second time in 5 nights. Gonna do it a third time on Saturday!
Happy 88th to Buzz Aldrin, second man to walk on the moon.
I deviate from celebrating birthdays of living persons for this one exception:
Happy Birthday to Bobbie Burns! I know what I'm drinking tonight.

Given your moniker, I presumed you had a wee dram every night!

Hi bman, ol' pal. Tonight it will NOT be a wee dram! Well, perhaps it will be several wee drams!

If you can find a haggis there you might want to indulge yourself tonight in the full ceremonial manner - in for a penny, in for a pound!
I'll use the opportunity of his birthday to say f**k Chris Chelios.

Happy 89th to Claes Oldenburg sometimes referred to the as "the king of pop sculpture."
Happy 73rd to the great Brazilian photographer and photojournalist, Sebastião Ribeiro Salgado
Happy 91st (
) to the great American soprano Leontyne Price

This space is normally reserved for those still living. However, I think special mention is warranted for two eminent people who were born on the exact same date: Feb. 12, 1809
Abraham Lincoln
Charles Darwin

And they both died in mid-April (though different years)
Double nickels today for Michael Jeffrey Jordan. I was fortunate to see him play in person in his prime a few times, including a 1993 Finals game vs. Barkley and the Suns.
Hbd to Niki Lauda. 69 today.
I thought he was older

Natas...there's a blast from the past! But then a mention should go to Tony Alva, Stacey Peralta and all the Z-boys. I still remember when I got a Dogtown deck, or was it a Powell/Peralta, with 120 mm Independents and hard sliders. What a game changer from my beat up Fiberflex with old school sticky urethanes.
Double nickels for Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam.
