My turn today

Happy 39th, Jc!! What are you and FKG drinking to celebrate?

I wish.  We are going out with a few folks including Miami Atty.   Not sure what else but I plan on the following among others:

2004 Heitz Martha's

2007 Val Llach

Blandy's 15 Year Bual (as it is a 1/2 bottle and our vintage ports are full bottles)

Miami Atty gave us the Heitz as a gift some years back and I always like having those gifts with him and Eva.

Sounds like a fun night!  Pls give them our best and tell them we will see them (and you two!) next March!

Happy 75th to John Newcombe.  I really miss that generation of tennis:  Rod Laver, Tony Roche, Roy Emerson, Newcombe, Arthur Ashe...

Rod lives nearby. At one point his son lived in my neighborhood which has a couple nice tennis courts. One of my friends (college tennis player) got to hit with Rod once. Must have been 15 years ago

That's fantastic!  Very cool.

For today, Happy 35th birthday to Tetris!

Vlad Putin.  I hope he chokes on his birthday cake.

Maybe the sight of 45 jumping out of his giant cake naked will do us a favor.

Thanks a lot, billhike.  Between this image, and your previous comment about "tongues and fartholes," I'm feeling a little nauseous.

PH

Fartbox, not farthole. Lease read more closely, Mr. pedant wanna-be!

Yesterday was Lentini's 50th.  If any of you have been lucky to offline with him, you know he is a gem of a guy.  Hosted my first ever offline that I attended (with my wife), PH, Jersey Foodies, Sibster, Newsguy were all there.  Still one of the great dinners I've had.

Cheers Rob.

Well, that deserves a mighty WS forum "hurrah"!!  Many happy returns!

Happy 74th to AHnold...  Arnold Schwarzenegger

He's a pig who should be shunned. Governor reduces sentence of former Assembly speaker’s son

He did this without even letting the parents of the victim know. You should have heard their interviews filled with sorrow and anger. One quote, "My son (was) stabbed in the heart when he was alive. Schwarzenegger stabbed him in the back after my son is killed.”

After being pushed for months as to why Schwarzenegger did it he finally answered, "Well, hello! I mean, of course you help a friend."

Or, embrace him because of this

The great Robert Plant.

One of the more interesting interviews I've heard on NPR was a conversation with Robert Plant about the history of the blues.  As I recall, he said he had an epiphany of sorts when he was in Morocco and, while listening to some street musicians (I forget in which city) heard chord structures and other musical "markers" that were (for him) the missing link between other African influences and Delta blues.  This interview was quite a while ago, so I don't recall all the details.  The other interesting thing, for me, was learning what a committed student of music and musical roots he still was.
