Al Kaline was born in Baltimore.

My father was not born in the US, and when he came here he knew nothing about baseball, but he wanted to assimilate so he tried to learn the sport. My father was a chemist.
So, one day, as the Tigers were coming to town for a weekend series, my father said to my brother and me, "What the Senators need is an acid pitcher."
My brother and I didn't understand and asked him what he meant.
He said, "They need someone to neutralize Alkaline."

As a kid in Windsor I went to many Tigers games and so saw Al Kaline play many times. We usually sat in the right field seats so saw him up close on long flies.

My uncle absolutely loved Kaline. The Tigers have trained in Lakeland forever so there were always plenty of opportunities to see them and get autographs during the spring. That said..he retired before I could see him Smile

Natas...there's a blast from the past! But then a mention should go to Tony Alva, Stacey Peralta and all the Z-boys. I still remember when I got a Dogtown deck, or was it a Powell/Peralta, with 120 mm Independents and hard sliders. What a game changer from my beat up Fiberflex with old school sticky urethanes.

I went to a tasting of the 97s in late 2000 and didn't enjoy it, actually. Every one of them tasted more or less the same - like sweet sticky over-sugared wine. On the plus side, it ensured that I would be patient with my bottles and let them mature!

they'll typically bring a btl at 20, 10 and last release to compare against the current release, so you get a good sense of how that vineyard/property ages.

Sadly, such tastings here are as rare as a Republican in Hawaii, so doubt I'll get a chance to taste new releases here again. Just as well, as I stopped buying with the 2007 vintage.

Thanks, just get tired of all the political stuff all of the time.  There is a time and place for politics, but I don't think it is here.

Yes he is a Baltimore guy PH. I used to love seeing him and his band play the club scene in Philly/NJ/NYC in the late 70's/early 80's. An amazingly gifted musician but even more so a kind soulful man telling beautiful stories through his songs. And he could always rock out with the best of them when he feels like stepping it up. He's been living in Scottsdale for a while and while he does pass through CA occasionally on a solo gig he's yet to come to SD. Next time he's close Im gonna make it a point to go where I have to.

Actually, he grew up in Garrett Park, about 20 miles from where I live now in Montgomery County, MD.  I got back to the states in 1974 in time to catch a couple of Grin concerts.  I was hooked from then on.

He's a great collaborator (even co-wrote a song with the novelist Clive Cussler) and solo musician.  Longtime friend of Neil Young and has had on and off connections with him and various incarnations of Crazy Horse.

My only "complaint" with Nils is that he doesn't "step it up," as much as I'd like him to.  When he does, he can produce goosebumps.
