Bellagio?

Actually Varenna. Love going to Bellagio to stroll but prefer Varenna to stay. Apparently Rick Steves mentioned it recently because the crowds here are bigger than we've ever experienced. Still my favorite place...

Thanks! Cool

We hit Red Newt yesterday and liked it. Best of today was Hermann Weimer. Not sure we will visit more tomorrow - our last day and we put in many many miles over the past two days!

No, they weren't pouring it. I asked if they would pour anything not on the list and they wouldn't. They said they poured some higher-end stuff on weekends but not during the week.

To be honest, we were surprised how unfriendly some of the pourers were - in one place, Bloomer Creek, the pourer (also the wife of the owner/winemaker) was outright hostile because I didn't want to taste all her wines. She was a really nasty piece of work!

Nope, just paid for our tasting and got out of there!

"Monforte d'Alba"
Highly recommend the Villa Beccaris. Spent 4 days there last September recuperating from a 8 day bike ride through those Piedmonte hills. There's also a nice Barolo producer (Conterno Fantino) 100m up the hill that offers tours/ tastings.
Enjoy!

Thanks A4E. We're staying at da Felicin, recommended by OTW and a number of the other Toronto cru who have stayed here in the past. Fantastic apartment with a view west to the mountains... if only the weather would clear up. We've been very lucky - warm and sunny - until today. Completely fogged in and drizzling.

We have appointments at 6 producers over the next 4 days. I'll post comments as the week progresses.

We loved Barcelona too. I was stunned by Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. Truly breathtaking.

No Priorat or any other wine visits but we had lots of Spanish wines.

w+a, I will be there tomorrow through Wednesday. How long are you there?

Flying home at 4:00 tomorrow unless my day does not go well. I will text you if my plans change.

Hoping your day goes well but if not you are welcome to raise a glass with Indybob and me tomorrow night. Wink

A beautiful day in Indy. Enjoy your evening.

Rob - St. Elmo's overrated IMO. We went to Corner Wine Bar in Broadripple.

I have to say, that Indybob's a stand-up guy. Winner

The cocktail sauce at St. Elmos though it awesome, IMO. I was just west of Indy this week, Tuesday morning was freezing

It's all well and good to be tripping around Italy (but Geneva?! why Geneva??!!), as long as you are keeping your roster current...... Wink Winner

If it makes you feel any better, my RBs started as Rice, Sankey, MJD and Blount in one league!

I believe both to be true! Smile Zurich was boring and expensive. Geneva had some nice architecture, parks, and fountains, and was a base for touring the surrounding area including Chateai Chillon in Montreux. I have no desire to ever return to Switzerland unless travelling to Alsace from the lake country of Italy.

Geneva wasn't on the itinerary, but my friend wanted to visit her brother and partner.

The Lake Geneva area is very pretty and surprisingly had several interesting things to do - castle, Christmas markets, Valais wine region.

We enjoyed a boat trip around the lake and the lake fountain is cool. But that's about it.
