Well, not painstakingly, but yes, we did miss Toronto this trip. We were originally just going to spend some time in Quebec this summer, but we love the history, museums, and art-- can easily spend a couple of days in the National Gallery-- in Ottawa, so Mrs. S decided to include it as well.
Perhaps you'd like to meet up in Ottawa, or one of the other cities? On the map they're only a couple of centimetres away from you.

FYI, Ronnie and Lady Roots are now in New Plymouth NZ which, according to Google Maps, is a few hours south of Auckland. Probably too far for a day trip but if you are going south, they are great people - I've offlined with them, more than once!
