Anyway, I find Tanqueray to have a deeper flavor than Sapphire. Hendricks is excellent; Ten can be a little too floral/fruity for me and I think of it as a niche drink. Malacca was also a throwback to older gins with a hint of sweetness, not for me. Never had the Junipero but have heard great things.
I am a big fan of the T Ten, when the gin mood hits me. Shaken well and ice cold that is a drink in and of itself, and most people don't believe you when you say that it is straight gin.

I haven't tried the Hendricks yet, but here different things about it. Seems to be slightly gimmicky and either a love or hate it kind of thing.

I really like this martini and I'm surprised more places don't make it. There was a place by my old office that made a great one, but I haven't seen it much elsewhere.


Our club makes these and its one of my favorite gin martini's. I used to enjoy Bombay saphire with stuffed blue cheese olives, but its hendrix now.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I can't stand Hendricks. I prefer Bombay Sapphire, but Tanqueray will do.
It's sometimes hard to find a balance between the medicinal and floral profiles.

I keep a few gins in my bar, including Hendricks and Junipero. Junipero is a great gin, made by Fritz Maytag in San Fran. Not only do I highly recommend his gin, but I recommend his first attempt at distilled spirits, Old Potrero whisky. Fritz Maytag, as in Maytag washers, started with Anchor Steam Beer, and branched out from there. His QC is amazing, and his attention to authentic and artisnal detail will probably be appreciated by folks here. His whisky is 100% rye, a very foxy and spicy thing. His gin is very junipery, with great aromatics.

I spend far too much time thinking about alcohol I think, lol.

I must find this. Anything to flip off Italians with makes it a huge plus!!
There are great things going on with small Gin producers these days, really interesting stuff.

Junipero is the 'classic' small batch gin, very strong juniper flavors, bold and powerful flavors.

Sarticious Gin is complex and a bit more mellow on the juniper flavor. They may or may not be defunct now, worth trying if you can find it.

209 - Made in SF, complex and smooth with citrus notes.

Rouge - Main botanical is spruce, no juniper. Nice complex and mellow.

Hamptons - Very citrus dominated with a bitters like twist.

Aviation - From Portland, complex spicy notes with citrus. Just trying this one out and I like it.

North Shore - Really nice with anise and flavors I'd associate with red wine (clove, vanilla, smokey). Wish I could find more of this, it's been my favorite.
