Sparty, the free tasting was decent, but didn't have any of the "big hitters". The ones that charge $15 or so will have Dom, Cristal, Veuve, etc. Also, Plainfield does not have a cheese shop in the store like a lot of the other Binny's locations do. I remember last year the Willowbrook location had some Rogue River blue cheeese set out, as well as fois gras pate and other goodies.

For those that went, was it a good experience for the money? I've had some of their grand tastings be outstanding, and some others have been so-so.

The grocery carts at Binnys are a perfect size to hold an infant carrier while tasting through the lineup of Champy. I've seen it done...
The only problem with their Champers tastings, ,and especially the one in STC, is that it brings out all the a$$holes.

Every year there's amateurs with way too much perfume, or a group that camps at the tables. Domino & I love going, but it can be really frustrating. Unfortunately we can't make it this year due to another committment.

There's a couple who we saw there the 1st year - no infant. Year 2, a little one. Now the little guy is walking around the tastings with Dad.

This is one of my main problems with their tastings (I see it at all the ones I've been to, not just Champagne) - those people that think they are there for a personal wine discussion with the person pouring. Just get your pour & move out of the way to taste it so others can get in, too.

Completely agree! I've been to the STC Champy tasting before, and will probably be there next week. When I bring a guest I always point out how to be polite at a wine tasting and move it along so others can enjoy a pour.
